Kary Ng's post-Cookies career has seen her take on a variety of projects, many of which have been bold and interesting, if not always popular. After a well-received spell with Ping Pung, the talented singer once again gets in touch with her rock spirit, embracing the band sound in her latest EP. This time, she collaborates with Hong Kong underground punk rock band Hardpack, whom she has known since she was 16 years old. The 4-track EP offers an alternative music experience unlike any of Kary's previous works, starting with the groovy main plug "L-I-S-T-E-N" and karaoke-friendly rock ballad "Perfect Match".

Kary gives it some welly in rock chic mode! Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Kary Ng having a strong penchant for solid rock music in her varied music output, no doubt dishes out some gritty rock n punk with Kary’s long time mates Hardpack here – solid hard styled punk at that. But nothing in the sense of uber aggressiveness (a la UK Subs or Vice Squad), but more American type punk to give a close sound proximity. But this 4 track mini album is good with three lively hard rock songs, very 60s/70s in melody in fact, and should also appeal to a none genre audience, especially fourth song “Perfect Match” considering its mellower rock ballad pace. Lovely melody! Although the cover sports a clean cut looking ‘ready to go to Sunday school’ bunch, this contrasts the more ‘punky’ image on the reverse of the CD box where the lads are dressed in varied garb (orange boiler suits, mohican hairstyle) in a hospital setting with Hardpack members in manic poses and Kary dressed as a very saucy super sexy nurse to administer her love ;) Hints of satirical comedy punk, I think (Splodgenessabounds?)

Although a very nice rock album, if you haven’t tried anything by Kary before I would no doubt recommend more the excellent “Kary 18 Cuts” CD/DVD combo ‘best of’ album or the “Lady K – Transformations” for mostly Kary’s soul dance electro pop stuff. Kary does all right here, though, as a ‘rocker chic’ and I’d certainly like to see more of Kary as a nurse, cough cough, sorry I mean, eh?, doing more rock and roll stuff (*o*blush*o*). Vocally wise, I guess Kary can always improve as a ‘great singer’, but the inner freedom of drive, charismatic propensity and passion from any musical artist is the key to 'greatness'. Lots of popular rock singers may not have ‘traditionally correct vocal diction’ so to speak (or even credited as singers), but are 'great' in their own style and voice. Anyway, keep it going Kary! <3 This packaging is a tall Super Jewel Box type with a nice photo booklet of Kary and the lads….and more Kary nurse photos you ask? Ah, that’d be telling ;)
