YesAsia Editorial Description

Award-winning actor Patrick Tam (Beast Cops) heads a quartet of Mainland assassins in Killers From Beijing. Tam stars as the leader of a group of Chinese army rejects (played by Chin Ka Lok, Michael Tong and Tuen Wai Lun) who undertake an assassination mission from Brother Chick (Joe Ma) to take out a ruthless triad boss. They journey to Hong Kong to perform the hit, as well as meet their true benefactor: Chick's Big Brother. But Chick's boss is pretty unsavory himself, and offends the foursome. True professionals to the core, the killers agree to perform the task they were given. Still, the Big Brother continues to treat them poorly, and these guys are not going to roll over for just anyone. Given the opportunity, they just might decide to do some killing for free! Filled with melodramatic male bonding and some blazing bullets action, Killers From Beijing is the tale of four brothers who unite under fire.

Professional Review of "Killers From Beijing"

November 8, 2006

If Hong Kong had drive-ins Killers from Beijing is what would be playing in them: straight-ahead low-budget action with no jokey revisionism (unlike its low budget contemporary Mafia.com). If the movie came from America in the 70's fans would hail its below-the-radar sensibilities. Since it comes from Hong Kong in the early 2000s, fans lament that it's not A Bullet in the Head.

A remake of Long Arm of the Law twenty years later, Killers from Beijing twists the "beware of China" theme in the only way that makes sense. Triad towel boy, Chick, gets sent to mainland China to find "swift, cruel guys," for his cackling, amoral boss who wants to rub out a rival. Instead he finds himself having to persuade four upstanding ex-PLA soldiers that they can make a better living in Hong Kong. The automatic assumption that Hong Kong is better is missing in the year 2000. When our guys get to Hong Kong the movie doubts whether it's even possible for Mainlanders to come to Hong Kong and not be conned by the homegrown sharks. At one point the camera pulls out revealing our four little soldiers stranded on a busy capitalist corner of Hong Kong. The socialist dream is gone and the PRC is a provincial backwater. The new world order is money-driven and the triads are its purest cinematic agents. Hong Kong talks about "profit" and "marketing" and "stocks" and then here come these meddlesome mainlanders talking about "deserve" and "belief" and "direction", screwing everything up for everyone.

Our guys are brought to Hong Kong, escaping a malevolent village head (Ho Ka-kui's gleeful, gruesome return to the screen) and dumped in an apartment, given an allowance and let out on the town. It's obvious that they won't be going back to China (a nifty little set of flash forwards establishes that early on) and there's certainly no death-defying stunts to get the audience pumped out, but it's how the movie unfolds that's worthwhile. The illicit thrills of Hong Kong have become desperately tacky. Karaoke has replaced hooking, duty free bargain hunting is the extreme sport, and pirate VCDs are the hot criminal luxury item.

A porn actress who screams "Yamadei", a love of car accessories, cascading bundles of money, Chin Kar-lok punching himself in the face - these are the tiny, resonant details this low budget world is made of. Lower your expectations and seek out Killers from Beijing. The effort pays off.

Time has changed Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Wowh ! For the first time but the second - and then the third times, was too much for me. After that I sold the DVD, but it is really worth it to watch this movie ! Actually, it's very amusing and splendid, but everything has its limit.
Try it yourself and then maybe you will understand me better, the way I am thinking.

Thank you for listening or should I say: " Thank you, for the reading ! I appreciate it !

Good Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Overall, this is a good movie.
The title might not be so appealing when I first saw it, but it is very good. All four main actors have good performance, including the villians, too.
It's definitely worth watching.
