Not an outright gem, but it grows on you.
| I was thrilled to get Gackt's new single, and despite other reviews I thought, "Hey, it's Gackt, it's gotta be good!" Well I was right and I was wrong. I'll tell you how I was wrong first. I popped in my cd and heard the first song "Kimi ga oikaketa yume" and was slightly...disappointed. It was catchy, fast-paced and nice and all, but not ground-breaking, not a revelation like many other Gackt songs. I liked the next song, "Birdcage" better, but still got no really special thrills from listening to it. Now I'll tell you how I was right: No matter what anyone says, Gackt isn't the sort of artist to record an inconsiquencial song. I began to realize this when after not listening to the single for a few weeks, the melodies kept popping into my head and when I started listening to it again I would sing along with zeal, just like any Gackt song. Bottom line: Let's face it kids, you just can't go wrong with Gackt. |

Kimi ga oikaketa yume/birdcage
| Kimi ga oikaketa yume is an excellent song. It's addictive, fast, and though happy, it is clearly an enjoyable song. The parts right before the chorus are best, when Gackt sings as if he is so happy and has so much energy to spare. It's different from most Gackt songs, but it still has that Gackt kick to it. birdcage is quite the opposite. birdcage is a medium tempo song that is absolutely beautiful. It starts out acoustic, then goes into rock and pain. It quickly advances into a combination of the two, and it quickly became one of his best. The lyrics for both songs are excellent, as expected from Gackt. Kimi ga oikaketa yume(the dream you chased) is a single new dears and old dears should buy-the music is undeniable. |

Kimi ga Oikaketa Yume (That is one LONG title for
| Well, I have to agree with almost everybody else. "Kimi ga Oikaketa Yume" is another typical Gackt song. Why? The man is capable of so much more, what with his experience in Malice Mizer (Who I recommend as well. He he.) and his songs off of Mizerable. It sounds too much like all his other stuff. "Birdcage" was different though. It started off slow, then moved into a sort of rock pace. I don't know if he'll put "Birdcage" on his next album, but if he does, I would only buy this single if you are a diehard fan (kind of like me ^o^). But there are some really great pictures included and that little wallet-sized six month calendar. It was good, but not great. I'm kind of disappointed. But I know he'll have incredible stuff later, so I am easily pacified. |

As a long time (devoted) fan of Gackt, I must say that 'kimi...' is only a so-so song. It is poppy; you can dance to it. But the music is nothing really amazing if you have listened to his previous recordings. The lyrics is fantanstic, but I think this song is use to put out the PV. (If you haven't seen the PV, I would highly recommend you should! It will totally make up for it.) Birdcage, on the otherhand, is definitely a breakthrough. The use of different string instruments makes the song amazing to listen to. So try it out. |
