Kimi ni Todoke, the popular award-winning shojo comic by Shiina Karuho, spawned a hit animated series that has been going for two seasons. Now, the pure love youth story hits the silver screen courtesy of Rainbow Song director Kumazawa Naoto. Tabe Mikako (Fish Story) takes on the beloved role of Sawako, an outcast chastised for her looks and shy persona, while rising star Miura Haruma (Crows Zero II) plays the dreamy Shota, the handsome classmate who brings Sawako out of her shell. Influenced by the visual style of director Iwai Shunji on Rainbow Song, Kumazawa carries the style here to create a realistic but charming romance about youth, innocence, and learning to achieve self-fulfillment. As a sweet, youth-friendly story with an attractive cast, Kimi ni Todoke managed to stand on its own at the box office despite the presence of big-budget blockbusters Umizaru 3D and 13 Assassins, becoming a box office hit in the autumn of 2010.

Kuronuma Sawako (Tabe Mikako) is not a typical bullying victim: Despite her desire to make friends, she is ignored and feared by her classmates due to her resemblance to the famous Sadako from the Ring movies. However, Sawako changes when handsome classmate Kazehaya Shota (Miura Haruma) starts talking to her. Despite the few who still hold assumptions against her, Sawako begins to make new friends and talk to new people with Shota's help. Soon enough, a romance begins to develop between the unlikely pair…
