A wonderful album Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Is it just me or is Mikuni Shimokawa underrated? Her voice is very good in a way you would like to listen to it everyday. I loved her "BEST SELECTION album", all the songs there were awesome. I have recently began to listen to this album and i'm pretty sure it'll grow on me. I think she sings better than most of the mainstream artists, but just that her company doesn't do much promotion for her. She has the potential to succeed on the Oricon, i'm sure of it.

It's pleasant... Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
But nothing spectacular or unique here. Her voice is a lovely soprano, but it sounds like several other Japanese singers and doesn't stand out in the industry at all. She could easily be mistaken for numerous other singers. Her music is diverse and that's nice. It's not ecclectic too much, but diverse enough to keep it interesting. Usually. The exceptions being tracks 8 and 9 which are definitely an attempt at R&B. The first three tracks are hard pop...almost rock and are pretty good. Then she has several ballads in a row that all sound alike after about the fourth one. Track 10 is the most individual song on the CD. It is my favorite. She seems to put more effort into this song than any other...you can almost picture her in your mind really passionately singing. Track 11 is lovely. Soft background vocals make this a relaxing song but not boring. She harmonizes well on it. However, Track 12 IS boring...it's super slow with an R&B feel that kind of makes the listener wonder if this artist is pop or R&B in style. There are even finger snaps on this song...which are not pleasant. Finally, on the last track, she picks up the pace back to sounding like the first 3 tracks on the CD. I like it. Overall, this CD is neither excellent or dissapointing. It's just...there. Nothing special, but nothing bad. I think this artist could do more to distinguish herself though. She has ability, just hasn't decided what to do with it yet. Once she finds herself, I think she has potential. I will order more from her. And on this CD I will continue to skip the R&B tracks. Oh, and if you are looking for a nice mix of English and Japanese...her English is horrible. Thankfully, she only says: Remember on one song and Love Song on the Radio on another. She can't even pronounce those correctly. I would advise her strongly against using English. If you don't play tracks 8,9 or 12. And omit track 13 too...the English refrain is grating despite the pleasing guitar on that song. It sounds wonderful musically, but her English chanting kills it. It's also a very short song. Well, I cannot reccommend or advise against this CD. All I can do is tell you what it sounds like. I have no real feelings about it one way or another. Although, if you enjoy clear soprano voices singing a variety of styles, you would probably love this. BUT, if you want your clear soprano voice to have a specific style and strength...look elsewhere, like Kokia, Kato Izumi, KOTOKO or U-ka Saegusa...even Chihiro Yonekura.
