#1 movie in Korea?
| This movie was very good. The story and the cast is what kept the movie so interesting. Each frame was essential and if you pay attention you can see that many events that happened to gong gil is symbolic to his puppet plays. I just wished they told us, audiences why Gong Gil and Jang-saeng shared such a bond. The ending is different from the originl play's ending "yi," but still effective leaving you with open thoughts. The characters shine when they perform thier plays and i wished they performed more throughout the film. The movie itself is funny, sad, and suspenseful. A must see film. My only complaints are some costumes did not exist during the time(directer explained that it was just to make the film more vibrant) and a cropt(fan) was from the wrong era. Had this been a bigger budget film with better camera angles and tricks this movie would prob been the BEST of its genre, but we can settle for being the leading movie of its genre :P |

It's a Beautiful Movie!!!
| After seeing the movie, I understand why this movie touched so many in Korea last year and is taking the rest of Asia by the storm. It's simply beautiful - beautifully acted and directed and well written, King and the Clown looks deep into one dark chapter in Korean history. All 4 main actors acted very well and their performances are enhanced by top notch supporting actors. Lee Jun Gi is the best newcomer of Korean cinema and he deserves every attention and accolade that he gets. He gave the performance of the year with his dead-pan portrait of Gong Gil - seemingly weak yet strong clown that captured the heart of a king. This movie is a must for your DVD collection. You'll enjoy the movie years to come. |
