I used to say that Koda Kumi was a guilty pleasure. However, Miss Koda's vocals have improved dramatically over the years. Now, with "Kingdom", she simply is a pleasure. This is a powerhouse album, with a very generous collection of 15 tracks. The songs run the gamut from hip hop to rock to R&B to pop to ballads. Whereas she previously needed to surf the cutting edge of hip hop and R&B to stay interesting, now she is capable of singing ballads very affectingly. Indeed, on this album the ballads and pop tracks are among my favorites. I hope that Miss Koda's tasteless sense of humor hasn't wrecked her career because I'm looking forward to more work like this from her in the future. I recommend "Kingdom" very highly for all fans of J-Pop. |

| I just received my order today. I really like the poster and the stickers are very nice. The best thing about the Asian industry they always use great photo paper. The Koda Kumi stickers are very nice. I really love the live performances, especially "MORE". I love all of the songs on there on the cd and dvd. Koda Kumi has striked great once again. I really got my money's worth. Koda is awesome!!!! Thank you Yesasia!!!! |

Upon hearing tracks and samples from this album, I thought it was pretty good, however, upon seeing the videos...I rethought my judgement. The videos are extremely irritating with the many closeups of Kumi and her fancy jewelry, her body, or her polished face. It seemed, nonetheless, concieted and made me feel uncomfortable at watching. Instead of focusing on the message behind the music, it seemed all Kumi wanted to do was show off her looks while cleverly disguising false emotion with a few wincing facial expressions and pouty lips to force an "awww. poor little Kumi" out of spectators. When I thought Kumi Koda would return to a more natural look she started off with in her debut, I was wrong. At least the "implant" rumour was put to death after the closeups on Kumi's chest in a lowcut dress during the "Himitsu" video. We all realize now it was just smartly done video & photo editting (like they did to Ayumi in her "GUILTY" photobook when they made her chest larger than her head on the last few pages) The concert was pretty good vocalwise, but once again, featured those constant annoying closeups. Kumi Koda seems like she's in her own little fantasy where the world revolves around her. Finally, it was shattered in an irrate and ridiculous scandal which made Kumi come back to reality and realize she can't just say anything and get away with it. While I also think the scandal is comical and a clear overraction, at least she's learned a valuable lesson. This is an improvement from "Black Cherry" and "Secret", but it's going to take more than that to earn respect from me and gain the title "artist". First impression of this album might be "it's so great" or "amazing"...but when you actually sit down and watch the DVD 2-3 times...you realize it's not as great as you thought at first. At least I can give Kumi credit on her voice because, for awhile there, it seemed to be going downhill ("Aisho, "Ai no Uta", "Milk Tea", "girls"). She has improved on that factor. |

Another FANTASTIC [I mean really(x5)] album!!! The album started of with LAST ANGEL featuring Dong Fang Shin Ki-A Great Combo of the Hottest group in japan and Korea with Koda. Following with several Slow hits like 'Ai No Uta' and 'anytime' wonderful ballads. Then one of my favourites is the song 'BUT' which has great groove and beat! FREAKY a really freaky and cool song(especially the MV) and the album ended with the Bonus song 'BLACK CHERRY' a continuation from the album Black Cherry's INTRODUCTION!!! Wonderfully great and Cool!!! Good Work Koda!!! The CD+DVD edition has the PV's that completely fits each song perfectly!!! The CD+2DVD edition has Koda's Live Performance in the Yokohama Arena. A REALLY MUST BUY ALBUM!!!! |

My ratings : Introduction For Kingdom : 6/10 quite boring but not bad. LAST ANGEL : 10/10 I don't get all the hate for this song, it's so catchy ! Amai Wana : 9,5/10 It reminds me a little of ''Candy'', I like the oriental style, one of best track in the album for sure. Himitsu : 9/10 really fine rhythm. Ai No Uta : 6,5/10 I used to hate this song but now I think it's not that bad. anytime : 9/10 I like this pop song, it has got a good melody and arrengement. Under : 9,5/10 I can't remain sitted down when I listen to this Urban/R&B track. BUT : 10/10 wonderful R&B track ! Koi no Mahou : 9/10 another good R&B track. Aisho : 9/10 amazing rock/ballad track. Anata ga Shite Kureta Koto : 8,5 like it ! Wonderland : 6,5/10 I'm not a great fan of Kumi's cute songs, however it's enjoyable. FREAKY : 10/10 a mix between R&B/rock, a wonderful track. MORE : really good ballad. Black Cherry : 10/10 it's damn catchy but short. I like the DVD with the PVs, some of them are cheap but I've enjoyed all, between the new ones especially ''Under'', ''Himitsu'', ''MORE'' and ''Wonderland''. I like very much the live DVD too. To me this album it's better than ''Black Cherry'', the singles are excellent from both albums but the non-single tracks weren't so good, excluding ''Get Up & Move!!'' and ''Tsuki to Taiyou''. |

I knew from the moment I heard the previews that this album was going to be one of her bests! It's so much like her earlier albums like "affection" and "grow into one," which, oddly enough, happen to be two of my favourite Koda Kumi albums. "Introduction to Kingdom" - Right off Kumi shows off her voice talents with seemingly unnatural high notes of "Love." It's a very calm and soothing intro, completely contrasting her usual intros like those for Best ~second session~ and Black Cherry intro. "LAST ANGEL feat. Tohoshinki" - I already thought this song was amazing when it was first released. Kuu's voice and those of Tohoshinki mixed very well together and complimented each other perfectly. "Amai Wana" - I love the arabic feel in this one. It's similiar to that of Candy feat. Mr. Blistah but much better. Plus, the bridge in this song...amazing. "Himitsu" - This track's somewhat pop, somewhat R&B. The beginning of this song already has you wanting more. "Ai no Uta" - Still, in my opinion, one of the best ballads Koda Kumi has done. She hits every note dead on and you can sense the emotion in it no matter how many times you listen. "anytime" - Most know that this ballad is very cutsey pop. This song is just clam, relaxing, and very nicely arranged. "Under" - This is probably one of the strongest tracks on the album. It's very hip-hopish that you can pick right up on the moment the music begins. "BUT" - This song will never get old. I love the strength this song brings out and the fun chorus and beat. Kumi pulled this song off right from the beginning, so you know you can't go wrong here. "Koi no Mahou" - By the title, one would think this would be similiar to Koi no Tsubomi. On the contrary. This song is more like Himitsu, but is much more poppish than R&B. "Aishou" - Once again, back to the BUT single. This song is still one of my favourites. I love the rock-themed ballad and how Kuu's strong voice pulls of the chorus. Simplicity matched. "Anata ga Shite Kureta Koto" - A very long title for a very simple song. I love this song and the PV is wonderful, but it doesn't rank with my favourites from this album. A very nice listen, nonetheless. "Wonderland" - If the song itself doesn't get you, then the PV will! The PV is much like that of WIND and the song is just very fun a poppish! You can never go wrong with pop, Kuu! "FREAKY" - Still one of my favourite fast-tempo Kuu-songs to date. I fell in love with the song the moment I heard the preview so there's no doubt I'm being biased as hell reviewing this song. "MORE" - This song has a very jazzy feel much like that of Kuu's earlier song from Best ~second session~ "feel." However, it is much MUCH stronger. One of the bests? I think so. "Black Cherry" - We all remember the introduction to her Black Cherry album, yes? Well! Here's the full version of the song! I love this song all the same! The power that emits when you listen to it is amazing! Overall, Kingdom is definately one of her best albums! This is a must buy for ANYONE. You don't have to be a Kuu-fan to fall head over heels for this one! Bravo, Kuu-chan! Bravo! |

I have been a j-pop fan since I was in little and I have to say that I was never really into Koda Kumi. The only song I ever liked by her was 'Real Emotion' from FFX Game. I didn't really think about her until she performed LAST ANGEL w/ Tohoshinki. This album is excellent. A friend of mine ordered hers and got it yesterday. I listened to it and have decided to buy it myself. I am buying this Hong Kong Version out of being broke from buying the Japanese Version of Tohoshinki's T. ^^() Plus I want the PVs. I have to say that this an EXCELLENT comeback album. I liked 12/15 songs. I usually can't stand her voice, but this is on a whole new level. I recommend this to anyone who's new to J-Pop as well. ^_^ This album is the KINGDOM of J-Pop 2008! ^_^ PS I'll be back to comment on the CD, shipping...etc... later. |

Okay...before I reviewed the CD-ONLY after hearing sample clips. =] now, I shall review the CD+2DVDs first press since I recieved mine today! ^.^ I love every song on the CD!! Musically, Kumi is at her best. I especially LOVE LOVE LOVE tracks "anytime", "UNDER", "Koi no Mahou", "Black Cherry", "MORE", and "Himitsu"!! n_n-V Those are the best to meeee! The PVs were surprising!! I thought they were going to be low budget since there's so many, but they weren't. There were some very stunning outfits and backgrounds...lovely themes! ^0^ I actually like "Wonderland" now that I've seen the PV...but yet...it's still my least favorite track from the album along with "Last Angel". XD sorrryyyyyyyyy!! The video is fun though! I enjoyed all the videos, but the ones that really left an imprint on my mind were "UNDER", "Koi no Mahou", "MORE", and "FREAKY"! "Amai Wana" is a great song, but the video should've had more dance scenes. I felt the video didn't fit the song's hyped beat. =/ I was disappointed that "Black Cherry" didn't have a PV but instead featured a very short opening performance of it from "Black Cherry Dome Tour 2007"! A PV would've been better because it's a GREAT dance song. o.O "Run For Your Life" was on the MV DVD, despite me being told that Avex Trax messed up and that it wasn't. I still don't like it though >_< Is it me or is Kumi the oldest one out of that group of young girls?? (giggling) seems immature...but overlookable since the other videos are SOOOO GOOD!! *.* "Aisho", however, makes Kumi look kinda bad. Considering the title can also mean "prostitute" and she wore her obi in front (the traditional wear for a Japanese prostitute) and then stripped down naked and laid in bed...I don't think she actually meant "Proof Of Love", I believe she actually meant to insinuate "Prostitute". It's one of my favorite songs, but least favorite videos. =/ Even though the whole atmosphere is breathtakingly beautiful. "BUT" is also not so good PV-wise. O.O Why no dancing? Instead, I just saw manly-looking women kiss eachother. EEEEK!!!!!! The outfits Kumi wore were ADORABLE though *.* The concert was the real treat, however!! She sounded PERFECT all the way through...but overdid it at the last performance...hehehe..! It's still wonderful though. It was SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!! I sang along every song!!! The opening was VERY exciting and I liked the fact that she didn't go overboard with the sexual image. "MORE" was especially noticeable and she also did her BEST performances of "You" and "hands"! "hands" featured piano only and "You" was an orchestra version instead of the original. It was also her best "Koi no Tsubomi" performance and it was more jazzy-themed than the original. "FREAKY" was astonishing too!! <3 It made me really get into the song and now I love it. After all this, I wanted even MORE!!!!!!!! (no pun intended! yikes!) >.< I will buy the "Black Cherry Dome Tour 2007" when it's out!! The teaser trailer of it featured on the MV DVD made me reallllllly wanna see it. ^.^ The whole packaging is beautiful too! I love the 2 photobooklets + special outer case. The poster is a bit too sexy to hang on my wall! XD The stickers are nice to have. It's so sad that Avex has stopped promoting this album because of the whole radio show controversy with Kuu. It's very silly because this album is definitely Kumi's best and one of the best albums I own. T_T Please keep buying and support her!! This new image of hers is actually quite classy, more natural, yet still sexy-cute. I'm proud of her. I hope it sales like mad anyway!!!!! ^.^-V hehehe!! GO GO, KUUCHAN!!!!!!!!!! |

I just received my package with the CD+2DVD yesterday and I thought I would give a little review and hope it helps some people out to pick up this and support Koda at this time. The album is actually really, really good. I think it's much better than her last effort, Black Cherry. I can only listen to about half of Black Cherry but I can listen to this album (almost) completely. My least favourite song is probably Introduction For Kingdom! When I heard it, I wasn't sure if I was going to like the CD... but I did. She has an array of different styles on here and as a person who doesn't really like her cutesy songs, I was pleasantly surprised to like (almost) every song on this album! Another nice thing they did was that, although "FREAKY" was a maxi single like "3 hot wave" they didn't include all of the songs from the single onto the CD. This made room for a lot of new songs! "amai wana" is probably my favourite one. "koi no mahou" and Wonderland are in close second for new songs. I'd review the PV DVD, but it's all pretty typical PVs for Koda Kumi. I absolutely LOVE the "anytime" PV though, it was just so absolutely cute and it made me like the song more! The weird thing is, before watching these I didn't like her with the short, light blond hair... now I do. Where I think this product shines is the last DVD. Now, I haven't seen all of Koda Kumi's live DVDs (only the one contained in Best~second session~ actually), but it always seemed like she had a backing track behind her vocals. In this live in Yokohama, however, she has a band! I just thought it was nice to hear her with some actual band. She sings a lot of ballads at the show, the one that sticks out the most is "Your Song", which I didn't remember hearing before this live. I guess the biggest problem with it is her costume changes. She looks like a pimp at first, then she has a cool outfit (kind of Chinese style, I thought), then she has wedding outfit... and finally, she looks a little like a hobo. There were just a few problems I had with this, but all in all, this was a really good release. I have to say, at this time when Koda Kumi is in a bit of trouble back in Japan, we, her fans, need to support her through this!! |
