Helmed by television director Sato Yuichi (Attention Please, Water Boys) with a screenplay by Always - Sunset on Third Street writer Kosawa Ryota, Kisaragi is equal parts slapstick and suspense, with some keen observations about friendship, manhood, and life thrown in. The loopy, atmospheric, and impulsive story is driven by the chemistry and ramblings of its quirky characters, and Sato finds a perfect cast in heartthrobs Shun Oguri (Neighbor No. 13, Sukiyaki Western Django) and Koide Keisuke (Kimi ni Shika Kikoenai), character actor Kagawa Teruyuki (Yureru), comedian Tsukaji Muga (Mamiya Kyodai), and popular everyman Yusuke Santamaria (Udon, Bayside Shakedown 2). Kisaragi was named Best Picture at the 50th Blue Ribbon Awards, annd nominated for Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor (Kagawa Teruyuki) at the 31st Japan Academy Awards.
One year after the suicide of C-list model Miki, five of her fans come together for a commemorative meeting: fan club leader Iemoto (Shun Oguri), Oda Yuji (Yusuke Santamaria), Snake (Koide Keisuke), Yasuo (Tsukaji Muga), and Ichigo Musume (Kagawa Teruyuki). Sitting down together for the first time, they reminisce about their idol, wondering how someone so bright and beautiful could have possibly taken her own life. It just doesn't make sense. That's when they reach a revelation - she must have been murdered! The five heatedly discuss her death, expressing their suspicions and weighing the many clues and possibilities. The more they talk, the more the case takes shape in their minds, and the closer they come to the truth...
