YesAsia Editorial Description

First we had films about the life of legendary Wing Chun master Ip Man, then we saw him teaching Wing Chun to a teenage Bruce Lee. It would seem inevitable that further down the road we should be given a film about the people who invented the Wing Chun kung fu in the first place. That's probably why producer Ng See Yuen, the famed filmmaker who gave Jackie Chan his first major break back in the 1970s, made this period actioner about Yim Wing Chun, the grandmommy of the influential school of martial arts.

Groomed to be the next Michelle Yeoh, new-generation action starlet Bai Jing (Three Kingdoms: Resurrection of the Dragon) plays Yim opposite young Golden Horse award-winner Yu Shaoqun (Shaolin) as her lover. The young stars are supported by a group of revered action veterans, including Kara Hui, Collin Chou, Yuen Wah, Yuen Qiu, and Austin Wai. Director Joe Cheung (The True Hero) returns after a long absence to helm Kung Fu Wing Chun, which features gorgeous but nonetheless furious action sequences choreographed by Tung Wai and Guy Lai.

Losing her mother at a tender age, Yim Wing Chun (Bai Jing) grew up under the wing of Master Ng Mui (Kara Hui), a fugitive in the end of the Qing dynasty. Inspired by Ng Mui's Shaolin kung fu, the boyish Wing Chun develops a kind of martial arts that would one day be named after her, while she strikes up a romance with righteous businessman Liang Baochou (Yu Shaoqun). When the minions of the Qing government draw near, Wing Chun must break out of their ambush to join Ng Mui in the showdown with Kam Ying (Collin Chou), the evil master who helps the Qing empire hunt down its enemies with his formidable Eagle Claws kung fu!
