Nikita is a junkie, living on the streets, scavenging for fixes. One night, making a desperate break into a chemist with a gang of punks, she witnesses a vicious and bloody shoot out in which all of her companions are killed by the police. She is found crouching in the corner of the shop by a heavily armed policeman. Dazed and strung out, she shoots him. Though officially sentenced to life for the murder, she is given a second chance, striking a bloody and inescapable bargain with the state: declared dead by the authorities, she is offered a new identity and the chance of relative freedom of she agrees to act as a highly trained government assassin.
