Could be Better
| The pace of this movie seemed promising at first. It seemed to be leading to a climax, but just abruptly ended as if it was rushed. The mastermind crooks were suddenly apprehended by police. There was no struggle, no twist, no brains in that. Sammi Cheng is a good actress but this movie could have just eliminated some of her PMS scenes and focused more on a better plot. |

Sammi steals the show!
| "Lady Cop & Papa Crook" might just be Sammi Cheng's greatest acting performance. She plays police detective Maureen Szeto who is given the complicated assignment of seeking to recover the kidnapped child of crime boss John Fok (Eason Chan) while at the same time trying to bring down his criminal enterprise. Maureen sets up operations in Fok's home and keeps Fok and several of his top henchman under house arrest. Patience wears thin and tempers flare as gang members and cops clash under the same roof while the hunt for Fok's son unfolds. Sammi is absolutely brilliant as the brash, impulsive, whipsmart detective, who unfortunately is distracted in her duties by her trainwreck of a private life. Eason Chan and Chapman To also contribute fine performances and the intricately plotted film never fails to grip the viewer. The English subtitles occasionally make it difficult to follow the elaborate plot, but Sammi's scenery-chewing star power kept me on the edge of my seat. Very highly recommended. |
