　　大導演嚴俊又一警世之作，根據蒲松齡《聊齋誌異》同名故事改編，描述明末期間，才女連瑣（李菁）因救父而誤殺奸徒，復投井自盡。十多年後，才子楊于畏（李麗華）因逃避奸臣追捕，投奔父執世交唐尚書（井淼）；怎料唐尚書趨炎附勢，拒不收留，幸得老僕李貴（顧文宗）忠義，引于畏於一荒廢書館躲藏。于畏夜間無意與連瑣相會，夕夕相對，發生一段人鬼之戀。唐尚書義女連闈（李菁分飾）與連瑣原屬同胞姊妹，跟于畏早有婚約。連闈妒恨亡姊迷惑于畏，指揮僕役火焚書館，不料失足而死；連瑣得借妹屍還魂，與于畏終成眷屬。此片由天皇巨星李麗華反串男主角，而「亞洲影后」李菁分飾連瑣及連闈兩姊妹，一正一邪，一人一鬼，表現出眾。

　　Love knows no limits in the grand period romance, Lady Jade Locket. A young fighter inadvertently falls for the spirit of a beautiful woman, who died years earlier avenging her own father's murder. The beautiful ghost is in fact the sister of his fiancee. Experienced as an actor in many such romances, director Yen Chuan keeps the tone perfect. Plus, with period specialist Li Li-hua in the lead and the attractive and acclaimed Li Ching playing the ghost girl, he really can do no wrong.

This film is quite good, probably the first one where I saw the lead actresses pairing up. I couldn't really get used seeing the male lead being played by a woman, but she did a good job nevertheless. Personally, I like Li Ching more as the ghost.

it is not a huang mei diao movie but is an excellent movie that moves along without unnecessary dragging. I loved both Li Lihua and Li Ching in their respective roles. The one song in the movie sung by singer Tsin Ting is beautiful.

Thank you Celestial for restoring this film. It was better than it was shown back then. Li Li Hua and Li Ching blended very well in this film. A film I can watch many times.

Enjoyable movie Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Veteran Li Lihua portrays well as a male scholar, not easy a task for her as she is so feminine by nature. She has to shed all her usual womanly gestures and mannerisms, somethng a less coquetish actress can do easily. Anyway, she does a fine job. Li Ching in two roles is adequately good. This movie is enjoyable and the scene where Li Lihua waits for Li Ching to appear to help 'him' play the guzhen is funny and entertaining. The night scenes are excellently restored compared to the old version. Will definitely treasure this movie.
