In 1971, director Gao Bao Shu collaborated with top actress of the day Lily Ho for Lady With A Sword. Popular sci-fi novelist Ni Kuang, who wrote hundreds of scripts for martial arts epics in the late 60s including Chang Cheh's classic One-Armed Swordsman, was responsible for the story. The film co-stars martial artists like Nan Gong Xun and Wong Hap. Lily Ho delivers a memorable performance as a heroic swordswoman trying to capture her elder sister's killer, only to discover the culprit is none other than her fiancé.

In Lady With A Sword, Kao Pao-shu showed that women could successfully direct a "heroic swordsman" film using a swordswoman bent on revenge. Kao cast Shaw's darling Lily Ho as the embittered swordswoman searching for the man who murdered her sister. The man turns out to be her fiance' but her nihilistic fate stays true to lone swordswoman form, as to paraphrase Gary Cooper in High Noon, "A woman's got to do what a woman's got to do."
