Potentially interesting, but very dated.

Hamasaki is billed third in this drama about members of rival female biker gangs in Japan. Ayumi plays Misaki, a confused teenager, who after being raped by her sister's boyfriend becomes tangled in the biker gangs' world of crime, violence and prostitution when she decides to join up. Following the hospitalization of the leader of the rival gang, Misaki's mentor Yoko is blamed and subsequently beaten. While attempting to seek revenge, Misaki is captured and must be saved, leading to an all-out war between the gangs that results in more than one death. Some of the scenes- including the rape and several brutal bashings- are quite disturbing. Ayumi puts in a decent performance as Misaki, managing to portray both an innocent girl and a violent young woman (yes, she really does knife a girl in this movie) but Minako Watanabe's convincing performance as the leader of the gang stands out. It doesn't have subtitles, but even if your Japanese is subpar, you shouldn't really need them to understand what is going on. The movie falls apart both in how dated it is (the hair, the clothes and the motorbikes themselves -scream- 1983) and the at times unconvincing violence- a single sound effect is used almost every time someone is hit, kicked, or whacked with a crowbar- leading to some of the most potentially disturbing scenes of violence being misconstrued as humourous. The film is an hour and 35 minutes long and some of it is hard to focus on if your Japanese is not good, but overall it's worth a watch if you're into gang movies. If you're a fan of Ayu though and want to see her acting, think twice before you purchase this because it may be a bit hard to stomache. |

Ladies, Ladies...

Yes, Ayumi DOES have a main part in this movie. It is well done, though the story itself is a little disturbing I feel. It is a "gang" movie after all. I think it does a good job at showing what does happen in those types of situations. It is not a show you will forget. I would NOT recommend it for young children, or for older children to watch without an adult to help explain things as the story unfolds. |

for all of you

For all of you who are confussed about why they have the title on YesAsia.com as "Rediisu": "Rediisu" is Katakana for the word "Ladies." Make the "u" silent and it'll sound a bit like "Ladies." Am I wrong? It even says "Rediisu" on the cover: on the little yellow part with the red writing. It's in Katakana. Well, i haven't seen the movie but i really want to... once I get the money, i will... hopfully... God Bless Ayumi. Ja. |
