Make more movies like this! Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
After watching this touching film, I was astonished to learn that this was the directorial debut of Mori Junichi. Everything about this film works so well that it feels like it must have had the steady hand of a veteran director behind it. But perhaps a veteran director would not have had the audacity to create such a splendidly heartwarming film out of such unassuming elements.

Kubozuka Yosuke is thoroughly convincing as a sweet-natured, mentally challenged young man. Koyuki may be even better as the emotionally damaged young woman who comes to embrace him. One truly believes her when she says that the young man is all that is keeping her alive.

The viewer becomes fully immersed in the peculiar world of this film and comes to share the minor triumphs and major sorrows of these wounded characters. The story's unforgettable culmination feels just right. "Laundry" is a terrific film and I highly recommend it for a general audience.

A Wonderful Movie and A Great Actor! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie confirms the excellence in Japanese cinema.
I always find the miraculous depth and carefully
managed scenes so impressive in many wonderful
Japanese films. This movie is a perfect example.
It's one of the most remarkable and unforgettable
movies I have ever seen. The wonderful actor, Yosuke
Kobuzuka is so perfect and faultless in the movie that I can't wait to see all the movies he is in. A major
talent. (he is also excellent in "Ping Pong").
If you are serious about movies, don't miss this one.

A Wonderful Movie! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This is one of the best Japanese movies. Poignant,
sad, sweet and heartwarming. The main character even
though is mildly retarded, he is so much more wise and
mature than us normal people. His heart is always in
the right place. Without the impaccable performance
of the great young Yosuke Kubuzuka, it may not have
pulled off. He is absolutely wonderful. He is also
very, very good in "Ping Pong". I only wish more
excellent Japanese movies have English subtitles
right after they came on market so more people get
to share the wonderful film making of Japan.

This movie is so thought provoking its unbelieveable. It really makes da viewer ponder the question of what love is. The acting in this movie was flawless. Great drama.

What a NICE movie! I long for relief from the endless, senseless, mind-numbing violence of most "important" films. "Laundry" is a breath of fresh air in a sometimes stale business. I believe a simple story well told needs little embellishment and this movie proves that point.

The plot needs a suspension of belief to work and it allows us to do just that. No contrived devices, special effects or shortcuts, just honest storytelling. The actors are likeable and the story invites you to follow and you want to. Touching at times, funny other times and sad (in a good way) at times this story resolves nicely.

I recommend "Laundry" without reservation to anyone wanting a good video experience. It is even better the second time one sees it. Bravo!

I purchased the VCD Overseas Version of Laundry because of the reviews on the YesAsia site. The photography, sound and subtitles on the VCD version were fine. This was a first class production from start to finish.

Subtle and stunning Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
This movie is absolutely fantastic! Kubozua Yosuke brings a real subtle play to his character which makes him believable and likable. Koyuki tends to be a bit overshadowed, but I also think that her character has a genuine dense quality that is indispensable. The story and directing flow well and are paced nearly perfect with strong movements in story going in and out like the waves referenced in the film. My only concerrns are with the quality of the transfer...blacks sometimes come out reddish and the video is not anamorphic, which is a bit of an irritation with an HDTV and subtitles. The film itelf is wonderful though, highly recommended!

Simple..is really what this film is. So simple that I could tell you the story in a minute. I gave the film a 7 rating, only due to it's two lead actors - they did what they could with the script. Yosuke's lines were just err...well so simple...Koyuki on the other hand did a far better job (well she had a better role anyway). I'd agree with the reviewer that it is different...

A good reason to keep an eye on japanese moviemaki Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Overflowed by american fx-filled colossals, Laundry is a breath of fresh air.
Artistically, this movie is representative of the well known sentimental japanese drama but more attractive then traditional japanese moviemaking, especially for the western audience because of its fine humor and a not dispersive timeline.
The topics are intense, but the director managed to replace self commiseration with irony and a true description of love itself.

Although the movie is mellow and not action-packed, its really funny and sweet! Any fan of Kubozuka Yousuke MUST see this movie! He is an amazing actor and this character he plays is a must see.
