But the script writers have done a subpar job..stretching out the stories. The best actor is the one who plays the police captain. Both the male and female leads are just ok. The supporting cast, especially the females, is less than 2nd rate. The director has not done his duty.
To me, the most un-becoming actress is the one who plays the young companion to the female lead(the doctor). Her facial countenance and her lips really bother me. Her acting is not good either. She is the one who has destroyed the series for me. Whoever selected her for the part has less than proper judgment.
The mainland's vast stable of actresses certainly is capable of offering a better candidate than she. I had to suffer through several chapters of the Tri-twim sector, watching her(of course lots of FF), let along throughout the series.

Of special note is the acting of the 2nd male lead, Fung. A master at work.

This is one of the better series I have watched. Recommended.

Most of the acting is very much subpar. Both the director and one of the male leads, Tuo Zong Hua, have done much better in other series. In this series, Tuo acts like a zombie. The blame goes to a lousy script and selection of players.
It behoves me and other series buyers not to purchase series with lesser known actors. My experience has been such series are usually trashy and cheaply done.

This series is not well produced, including poor script, cast selection, directing etc. Many uninteresting and wasted dialogs, disgusting characters, very disturbing acting. Liu Tao, one of my favorite actresses, is either miscast or poorly directed here. A great disappointment.
Story is not tight and drags on. Hardly recommendable.

#4 Concubine shows that she is a skilled fighter, yet she does not fight against Concubine #3 when she finds out that the latter is a Japanese agent. #4 also kills herself instead of trying to kill #3. Unbelievable !
From the shot, I thought that the Wife could easily have been saved from the fire, with so many of her husband's soldiers around the scene. But, she perishes anyway.
Great directing, acting but scripting could have been better.

Too many improbable situations. The only two characters worth watching are the male lead and the wife to the 2nd male lead. The rest of the cast are below par in acting and presence. The second male lead blinks his eyes incessantly, distracting as heck. The writer and the director are 2nd rate.
30 chapters are too long.

However, later part of the series is less interesting, much tapering off in intensity and credibility. The ending is loose and not plausible. This series could have been a 10 if the latter part is as well written as the early part.

Too bad, the credits at the end of the series are too small for me to decipher. I really want to know the names of the actors and actresses whose performances are quite memorable.

Very crudely done. Poor production, directing, acting, and everything else. The supporting cast and extras look like they were dragged in from the streets without any acting to speak of. Story is weak and confusing. The producer and director have no clue in making a series.
