本名高天祥，彰化鹿港人氏，生於1955年。其父為當地望族，母為板橋林家後裔；從小家境優渥善好文學，畢業於台中一中，考進台大歷史系研究所。退伍後，短暫的協助其父經營家族企業，因著作甚多，由台師大教務長延聘擔任客座講師迄今，本書為其最突出之代表作。
