林惠民（林子祥飾）接受香港時裝發展局的邀請，從美國回港籌辦一個時裝展。其意念是以廣東手托木偶配以視聽技術來展出，並邀得徐竺筠（張天愛飾）任主要模特兒。某日，林在工作時，被木偶擊倒落地，昏迷時腦中有一兇殺案之幻象出現。但林仍堅持用木偶做表演工具，招來贊助商施繼豪（謝賢飾）不滿。不久，林再次意外昏迷，凶案過程再次出現，但可惜看不清楚案中姦夫之樣貌。林根據線索查得，原來自己與徐竺筠是二十六年前因凶案死亡的夫婦之轉世，而施繼豪即當年的兇手，但徐不相信林所言。時裝展當晚，三人在爭執中，施再次用同一木偶擊林，前世凶案再次重演。
A major fashion show is being organized by the Fashion Promotions Board and a renowned multi-media specialist, Lam, is invited to execute the show. Lam proposes to use Chinese puppets as the main theme. The sponsor of the show, Mr. Si is reluctant to accept the idea. Both Lam and Mr. Si are interested in Didi, a newcomer in the modeling field and selects her. While working on the slides of the puppets, Lam is knocked down unconsciously by something seems like a puppet which leapt from the screen. While unconscious, Lam sees fragmentary segments of an assault, reminding him of an old news where a puppeteer and his wife were both killed 26 years ago. Lam finally sees the complete assault and finds that the unidentified figure killers from the scene of the crime is Mr. Si. He figures out that it seems as though he is accursed to repeat the events of his last life and tries to avoid it. However, Didi refuses to believe it and finally the tragedy happens again as what fare has in store for them.
