"LIFE" is worth listening!!! 5 STARS!!!!
Singer/songwriter Angela Aki celebrates 5 years in the recording industry with her newly released CD "LIFE". Angela Aki has made a huge impact on the Japanese pop charts since her debute in 2005, and has gained admiration and recognition of fans and the music industry world wide. In 2005, she released the single from the Final Fantasy XII soundtrack "Kiss Me Goodbye" (in English and Japanese versions )which reached #6 on the Japanese charts. "Life" showcases Angela's amazing talents as a composer/singer/songwriter/musician and her music reaches right into to heart of the listener. Her piano and vocals lift the listener like few entertainers have. Even the songs in Japanese speak to the soul and leap language boundaries. The First track translated "Seasons of Love" a beautiful song of how love changes like the seasons. My Favorite Japanese song on the CD (so far) is track 2 "Kagayaku Hito" . Angela plays guitar on this song . She sings of the longing to be a person who "shines from within", and "loving the person you see in the mirror" . Amazing words! Here is the track list: 01 Ai no Kisetsu | 愛の季節 02 Kagayaku Hito | 輝く人 03 Every Woman’s Song 04 Sign | サイン 05 Remenber Me 06 Unbreakable 07 What Are The Roses For? 08 Ai to Bansōkō | 愛と絆創膏 09 Mad Scientist 10 The Truth Is Like A Lie 11 Bop Bop Bop (Color Of Your Soul) 12 Haha naru Daichi | 母なる大地 13 LIFE Angela has given us a wonderful new side of her song writing talents by adding six new songs sung in English (much to the delight of her fans)! "Every Woman's Song" was co written with Grammy award winner Janis Ian, and is sure to become a great hit for Angela, celebrating woman throughout the world- "We are beauty, we are mystery, we are ONE" she sings. "Unbreakable" Another hit in the making will cross pop/country hit charts. A powerful song "Make me one unbreakable heart" ! "What Are The Roses For" performed as a waltz (a dance of secret intent?) with piano and cello looking for underlying intensions of a lover's guilt. "Mad Scientist" Is a fun pop song of jealousy and over possessiveness. "Take off your lab coat and get on the love boat!" "The Truth Is Like A Lie" A powerful heart wrenching song of love lost longing and waiting... "How can I believe this is really goodbye, when the truth is like a lie". "Bop Bop Bop (The Color of Your Soul) another song co written with Janis Ian. This catchy tune will make you smile! "Bop, bop, bop! Baby, what a smile! Bop, bop, bop! It's a million dollar glow!" It sticks in your head! All of the songs on "LIFE" are driven with the magic and power of Angela Aki's amazing talent. Angel AKi weaves a beautiful musical tapestry of LIFE. The CD truly a gem among the pebbles! A MUST HAVE if you love good music that has a soul of it's own! A breath of fresh air! ~Mitchellmania |

LIFE
After a couple listens, I concluded that Angela spent less time experimenting with different styles and instruments and just stuck to what she does best - song writing and ballads. As such, I felt that "LIFE" is kind of a step back from her previous album "ANSWER". The ballads are reminiscent of her first two albums "Home" and "TODAY", but they lack that classic quality that one would immediately associate with Angela Aki. Nonetheless, she still maintains a high quality of songwriting and composition. About half the songs are English. Her ability to transition between the two languages is what makes Angela a great songwriter. Each language has its own quirks and meanings, and each doesn't necessarily translate well into the other. The gems in this album are 輝く人, Unbreakable, Mad Scientist, The Truth is Like a Lie. Mad Scientist is one of the several upbeat tracks and is one of the most outstanding tracks. Angela cleverly uses chemistry references to describe a complicated relationship full of scrutiny and insecurity with a guy that is referred to as the 'mad scientist'. 'What was once an effortless love mixed with elements of trust and a kiss has now lost its chemistry because of jealousy.' The other three tracks are the three ballads that I emotionally connected to the most. Fans of Angela's previous work will likely enjoy "LIFE". For casual listeners, I would probably suggest "ANSWER" if you're looking to sample her music. Rating: 9/10 |
