a big let down
a big let down
| i was excited about watching this concert for the reason i like l'arc-en-ciel and this is their live in usa concert. it is boring to the core. the recording of it is plain bad. there are no true close-up shots of hyde, ken, tetsu, yuki. the lighting is bad. most of the time you cannot see them clearly. l'arc-en-ciel often sound good live. do not know what happen to them when they did this concert. the music is not as sharp as the way they play in japan. the singing is kind of off. i watched this two times straight. for the third time i just skipped to the songs i like. after the third time i just stopped playing this. just went to listen to their cds. this dvd was a big let down. |

Depends what you're looking for.
| I have to say, I really enjoy watching this DVD- it's the first L'arc-In-Concert I've ever seen, so it was nice to see how they are on stage (I know... I feel so out of the loop). But as a musician, I also must say that after the initial rush of seeing them perform, even on DVD, I was greatly disappointed. It's true- compared to the actual recordings, HYDE's voice really lacks the quality and control he usually displays. The concert is full of energy, so this is a lot of fun to watch, and if a few off notes don't bother you a lot, then... go for it. I personally ADORE HYDE and thought he was just adorable on stage- a few of his "engrish" lines here were pretty classic. I'm sure, as well, that seeing this live would have been much different. It's full of energy, a ton of fun, great presentation, and overall good sound where the band is concerned, but from a musical standpoint, HYDE's vocals lack their usually accuracy and control. If you are a collector or don't think the music-y specifics will bug you, though, I would get this- it's a ton of fun. (Ladies- check out what HYDE's wearing!! OMG, he's SOOO hot!) |

L'Arc~en~Crashes my hopes for a good concert.

I'm no professional when it comes to music, but I'd say that I have a pretty good ear. Straight forward...from every commercialized concert following their 1998 DVD, LIGHT MY FIRE, L'aruku have become a figurative earsore. I really hate to give this DVD such a bad review, but I try not to say stuff by any of my favorite bands is automatically awesome, I say it how it is [oppinionated of course]. Hyde dissapoints me most in this show - almost enough to not make me sorry I missed seeing them in Baltimore. Most of the songs linger on the line between "okay" and "not quite there", Hyde's vocals show a lack of control and make the whole band sound bad, even though I'm generally pleased with their sound as a whole. In short, you're better off with either LIGHT MY FIRE '98 - a great show visually and sound-wise, Shibuya 7 Days - fair-to-good vocals and good music with a neat show, or SMILE 2004 - ...just go read their reviews, but try to filter the fans from the groupies. |

What a blast~
| Haha, another reviewer who was at the real deal. ^.~ It was an amazing concert, and I can't wait to get it on DVD. The guys were hilarious- excellent performers, and great musicians. And I give them a lot of kudos for speaking english with the crowd- I was most impressed. It was an amazing experience, to be sure. |

This concert was amazing
| I was one of the people who went all the way to Maryland just to get the rare chance to see L'Arc~en~Ciel. I drove there from Ohio with about a weeks notice but it was very much worth it. I didn't get to meet them unfortunately, but the concert was the best thing I've ever been to. I would have hoped more people would be into the music but after the loooong line with no water and the tremendous heat and humidity I think the crowd did ok. Hyde was gorgeous as usual and his vocals were better than I expected. These guys can really put on a show, and hopefully they'll put on another one in the U.S. some day soon. |
