a worthy continuation of YMO Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Definitely one of the best releases of 2003. You can imagine a line drawn from the first YMO album, through 'Technodelic', through 'Technodon' directly to 'Loophole'. Hosono and Takahashi write low-key melodies and add tiny sounds, clicks and glitches, broken spanish guitar and buzz and humm. Sakamoto appears and I guess that would have gotten all the press but it's the Cornelius remixes that really stretch the sound out, leaving pregnant pauses between the beats, that really shine. The Safety Scissors remix of 'Night Talker' compresses the action, removing pauses in the way the Cornelius added them.
The cd has a weblink to some videos (the bouncing, disconnected breasts for 'Mars' are puzzling and cute) and some very well thought out packaging. The hole in the middle of the sleeve is carried on through the booklet. A nice touch.
How long have these two been making music? How did they make something so current without sounding forced? It's late night listening, very relaxing and very rewarding if you headphone it.
