Yakuza Romeo & Wealthy Juliet Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
YesAsia appears to be working overtime to mislead people about this film. The movie is called "Love in the Mud", not "Love in the Mild"! The film's director is Sokichi Tomimoto, not Nobuhiko Ohbayashi. And who the heck wrote the description of the movie shown above? The prince and princess live happily ever after??? Not exactly.

"Love in the Mud" is another Yamaguchi Momoe-Miura Tomokazu vehicle and it's a good one. Miss Yamaguchi plays the privileged daughter of Japan's ambassador to Spain, who has been place in the care of her wealthy industrialist uncle while her parents are overseas. Her family is setting her up for marriage to a well-educated young man with a bright future. But Miss Yamaguchi has other ideas.

While driving through Shinjuku with one of her friends, she is accosted by three gangsters who intend to have their way with the girls. Rival yakuza Miura Tomokazu intervenes and saves them. In doing so, he is stabbed and seriously injured and one of the bad guys is stabbed to death. Mr. Miura is going to be charged for the death, but Miss Yamaguchi tells the police of Mr. Miura's heroism on her behalf.

Miss Yamaguchi is smitten by Mr. Miura, but Mr. Miura seeks to discourage her. He knows that yakuza guys and upper class girls don't mix. Since Miss Yamaguchi will not relent, her uncle plans to pack her off to Paris. Miss Yamaguchi runs away to be with Mr. Miura, who now is being sought by gangsters. They suspect that he has become a stoolie for the police.

Will the prince and princess live happily ever after? Don't count on it, but I definitely recommend watching this 1977 film to see how things turn out for our star-crossed lovers (and hear some very groovy '70s style music).
