Can success ruin a marriage? Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
"Love is Love" charms the viewer by exploding her expectations. A film starring Stephen Chow and Sandra Ng must be a wild comedy, right? Wrong. While there are comedic elements to the film, "Love is Love" turns out to be a sturdy and engaging romantic drama. And Stephen Chow and Sandra Ng prove to have a very touching on-screen romantic chemistry. Chow plays Sam, a hard-working jack of all trades employed by restaurant owner Shing Fui On. Sam and Tai (Sandra Ng), the restaurant owner's daughter, are deep in love and planning to get married, but Tai's dad is dead-set against the relationship. He wants Tai to marry someone 'better' than the uneducated Sam. Nonetheless, Sam and Tai elope and build a happy marriage, although money is tight for the young couple.

Sam takes a job as a marketing assistant for a diamond company. His hard work brings him to the attention of Daisy (Suki Kwan), the company owner's daughter, who begins to groom him for a better things. However, as Sam progresses in his career, stresses build in Sam and Tai's marriage, as Tai fears that she is not sophisticated or attractive enough to retain Sam's attention. The stresses come to a head when Daisy is transferred to the company's Singapore office and asks Sam to serve as her assistant there. Tai, believing that there must be more than just a professional relationship between Sam and Daisy, threatens to break off her marriage.

Can the simple, loving relationship of these two sincere people survive Sam's career success? That's the question at the heart of "Love is Love" and the story is told in an honest, unexploitative manner that makes this an engaging film deserving a wide audience. It's a treat to see Sandra Ng play a role that shuns her usual self-abasing humor, to see Stephen Chow as a sincere romantic lead, and to see Suki Kwan play a role that isn't dependent solely on her sex appeal. Highly recommended.
