Pop idol Cyndi Wang and idol drama heartthrob Mike He pair up in the 2011 CTV romantic comedy Love Keeps Going. Cyndi shines the brightest in this warm romance as a positive young woman who is determined to be the sunshine in other people's lives. Sparks fly when she meets her polar opposite, an uncompromising guy who puts his own world first. The drama also co-stars Shi Yi Nan (Amor De Tarapaca), Michelle Chang (Love 18), A-Wei Chang, and Hey Girl's Xiao Xun (Rolling Love).
Ever since she was a little girl, Mei Le (Cyndi Wang) has tried to do her best at everything. Her kind heart, strong work ethic, and selfless attitude win the love and approval of those around her. She even gave up her own career to help her boyfriend Yi Feng (Shi Yi Nan) fulfill his dream of opening a bakery. Everyone likes Mei Le, and Mei Le likes everyone - until the day she meets Yi Feng's brother, cold and demanding musician Yi Lie (Mike He). The two don't get along from the very start, but Mei Le's sunny personality gradually melts Yi Lie's cold heart. When things go wrong between Mei Le and Yi Feng, it is Yi Lie who is at Mei Le's side to help her through her darkest days.

Mike's and Cyndi's most nuanced performance yet.

Love Keeps Going brings one of the most nuanced and polished performances from both Mike He and Cyndi Wang. While the genesis of his role in this series appears to be very similar to the sort of role Mike He has generally been accustomed to playing (a wealthy, successful, very masculine character), his acting has matured very considerably in this iteration. Also, two-thirds into the series, his character's emotional world takes a fairly dramatic turn in the plot, which allows him to really shine in the role of Yi Lie. Though Taiwanese idol dramas tend to be somewhat over the top and known for their exaggerated and somewhat stilted portrayals--and Love Keeps Going is not entirely an exception to the rule; it continues the tradition of a naively-aspiring female who meets the successful, handsome rich man--however, the plot's development is a more sophisticated treatment of these motifs, where the sparks between Mike and Cyndi bring something new to the table. Their more matured styles of acting--which have improved radically from each of their respective previous serials, Sunny Happiness and Momo Love--offers the viewer of Love Keeps Going a vivid sense that love truly bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things: a message that perhaps some of us have stopped believing along the way. But Mike's and Cyndi's performances in Love Keeps Going convinces one of the hope and belief: that love never fails. |
