Vaunted director Li Han-hsiang reveals the way of the world in this anthology film of four stories that feature far more swindlers and swindling than lovers or love. There's fake acupuncturists, gullible counterfeiters, a jewelry-heist in a VD clinic, and a salesgirl's subtle scam in these short cinematic stories of gulls, dupes, marks, and fools and the cons, cheaters, charlatans, and connivers who trick them. It's four times the fraud as the cheats, gyps, and rip-offs come fast and furious.

Comedy Foursome
| I saw this film in the 1970's in San Francisco, where there were six Chinese theaters near my flat. All of the four episodes are amusing, but my favorite is "The Money Machine" with sexy DanNa and Shao YinYin (a twin for my girl) as hookers who save money to buy a machine that apparently prints money from a British man.They are swindled as the title says. Second to it is the tale of a wandering quack whose patients die. His servant is punished when that happens. |
