漢顯帝時，兵部尚晝之子上官雲天(林家聲飾)平南奏凱，衣錦還鄉，而吏部尚書之女司徒幗英 (吳君麗飾) 乜平西凱旋，兩人歸鄉途中相遇互不相讓，鬧至金鑾。顯帝左右為難，心生一計，先封幗英為御妹，後封雲天為一字並肩王，並賜予金殿成婚。洞房之夜，雲天與幗英互相指摘，喧鬧不休。時北狄犯邊，兩人挍場比武，爭掛帥銜，不分勝負，帝決以抽簽來定奪。最終幗英為主帥，登壇點將，雲天拒受命，幗英遂罰雲天單騎殺敵，雲天誤中伏兵，無奈寫書，飛箭乞救。幗英接箭，率女兒兵解圍，終破北狄，幗英悔悟不應以私害公，故將功勞讓予雲天，兩人冰釋，共慶團圓。
