YesAsia Editorial Description

The team behind the hit Korean drama Lovers in Paris presents another fairy tale romance set against a stunning European backdrop. This time, creators Shin Woo Chul and Kim Eun Sook bring drama fans to the golden spires of Prague, Czech Republic. Lovers in Prague, a.k.a. Romance in Prague, stars Jeon Do Yeon (Shoot for the Stars), Kim Min Joon (Damo), and Kim Joo Hyuk (Singles) who won the 2005 Baeksang Best Actor Award for his performance. A moving story is born when fate crosses paths in a beautiful, foreign city.

A foreign affairs officer in Prague, the bright and beautiful Jae Hee (Jeon Do Yeon) is none other than the daughter of South Korea's president. She is, however, having a difficult time getting over her ex-boyfriend (Kim Min Joon). An unlikely romance begins to bloom when she meets police sergeant Sang Hyun (Kim Joo Hyuk), who came to Prague in search of his ungrateful girlfriend (Yoon Se-Ah, Smile Again). When secrets are revealed and old flames reappear, will the president's daughter and the poor detective have the strength to stay together?

Product Information

The presidents daughter, Yoon Jae-hee (Jeon Do-yeon) is living in Prague working as an official in the consulate under foreign affairs. Choi Sang-hyeon (Kim Joo-hyuk) is a detective who goes to Prague in order to look for his girlfriend, Hye-joo (Yoon Se-ah). Sang-hyeon who loves Hye-joo with all of his heart has been paying for Hye-joo's tuition, and was planning to marry her. However one day Hye-joo (who is in Prague) tells Sang-hyeon never to look for her again.

Sang-hyeon ends up going to Prague to find Hye-joo. Sang-hyeon meets Jae-hee and misunderstandings arrive between them. Sang-hyeon ends up thinking Jae-hee is a prostitute but later asks her to help him translate (because he only spoke Korean) when he gets into a little problem with a pick-pocketer. Coincidentally, Jae-hee's roommate is Hye-joo. Later, Sang-hyeon learns that she is pregnant with another man's baby. Hye-joo tells Sang-hyeon she loves the other man because he is wealthy. Ji Young-woo (Kim Min-joon) is from a prominant family, he was Jae-hee's former boyfriend, but had left her due to his own reasons, and still harbors feelings for her.

3 months later, back in Korea, Jae-hee gets pulled over for speeding. The officer who pulled her over is Sang-hyeon...the two then form a love story.

This drama will mark the return to television of actress Jeon Do Yeon and actor Kim Joo Hyuk, both of whom last appeared on the small screen three years ago.

Dark tale of threatened love Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
"Lovers in Prague" begins as a classic romantic triangle, with comedic touches and a hint of a dark undertone. As the story progresses, the darkness grows and grows until this series becomes something quite different. It evolves into a grim story of a desperate love under assault both from a former lover who will stop at almost nothing to tear the lovers apart and from a ruthless power broker seeking his own selfish ends.

Jeon Do Yeon and Kim Joo Hyuk are the lovers, with Miss Jeon playing the daughter of Korea's President and Mr. Kim playing a streetwise police detective. Kim Min Joon (last seen by me as the dashing revolutionary in "Damo") plays Miss Jeon's former boyfriend who grows increasingly brazen in his attempts to break up the two lovers. All three give moving performances, and Miss Jeon has never looked lovelier. Jung Dong Hwan plays Kim Min Joon's father, the most chillingly cold-blooded character I've seen in a long while; Mr. Jung is particularly effective due to his exquisite tight-lipped control. Also giving strong performances are the hilarious Kim Na Woon as the detective's aunt and Kwak Ji Min as a poor young girl who is helped by the detective and later befriends the President's young son.

While there are a couple of episodes in midseries in which the love triangle storyline becomes a bit repetitive, the show touches on many interesting themes that one doesn't expect to find in a love story, including poverty, political intrigue, and class consciousness. And the dark underpinnings of this series make it very compelling viewing. There are many edge-of-your-seat scenes in which the viewer is kept in suspense over the critical decisions the various characters may take.

I enjoyed the series and recommend it. I suspect that it will be better appreciated by a more mature audience.

Overrated Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I have seen "Lovers in Paris" and "Lovers in Prague" and I think they both are too overrated, although I like "Lovers in Prague" more than "Lovers in Paris".
Nothing to say against and cast here . They all are very good but somehow, I think the two male leads look too much like each other. I got confused at first as to who was who.

Prague is a beautiful location. The picture quality of these disc are awesome. Two things I don't like: no subtibles to the songs. It does not matter how beautiful the songs sound like, it is totally meaningless when I don't understand a word. After spending money to traslate the whole series, you think they will spend a few dollars more to translate the songs too. Who is holding the purse strings so tightly?Second thing I don't like was the story line. Oops. Isn't that the most important thing? I found it to be a little old fashioned and dreary. Nowadays, it is hard to believe someone can force a marriage and I found it hard to cry with the girl over her sadness.

Totally captivating! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I did not expect to like this drama as much as I did. The actors are not that striking and the plot so cliche I thought how can this be anything good or at least worthwhile to watch on a rainy afternoon? Short of nothing else to watch, I grabbed this DVD, albeit, reluctantly to pass the time. Gee whiz, was I hooked from the get go. I give all the credit to the 2 main actors. Their acting was flawless, I thought. Their comedic timing was perfect and, oh, how they can deliver those cheesy dialogues! It was hysterical when it aims to be funny and sad when the situation calls for it. There are some cheesy parts but you have gone along and been invested in the characters that you feel like: awwww, cute! LOL! Overall it's funny, witty and, oh, so romantic! Check this one out!

Good start, witty dialogue! Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
The series has a great start with Prague as its setting. The story has a very strong premise. The first three episodes will capture your attention but it seemed to drag a bit in the middle.
The actors and actresses are a bit old and not that good looking but I think they acted really well. They became good looking after a while!
It has a very good script! I liked the exchange of meanigful dialogues.
The plot/storyline needs improvement. There are a few events that were not properly developed like why their fathers have political rivalry, why she liked the guy so much.
Minor characters should also be given more focus (her brother and his classmate's and his aunt and co-policeman's love stories).
Overall, it is a typical Korean love triangle series that can help you past your time.

Which is a must see? Customer Review Rated Bad 5 - 5 out of 10
Though I'm one of those who watched Korean series/movies coz of a particular 'pretty' face actors/actresses, I have tried to watch this one coz of some reviews I've read that this is a must see. But sad to say I haven't been impressed like them, should have stick in watching series with 'pretty' guys in them. That in case you will not like the story after seeing it for so many hours, but seeing Jo Hyun Jae eyes and lips or Yeon Jung Hoon smiles and dimples or Rain's and Bae's body are consolations enough. And yeah, one of the reviewer here was right, couldnt't see any reason what Jeon Do Yeon character have seen on the cop guy, would have believe more if she has fallen in love again to her ex-bf coz he has made more sacrifices and I think he is much more romantic than the guy cop, probably would have understood Jeon Do Yeon if the cop guy has a face like Jo Hyun Jae eh? Anyways, you would probably enjoy this one on it's first few episodes but as the clock start ticking and you start wondering why Jeon Do Yeon is so eager to the cop guy you would have wish to believe me that Korean series with a 'pretty' face on it is the one which is a must see!
