Based on Yoshimizu Kagami's popular serial comic, anime series Lucky Star follows the humorous misfit adventures of a group of Japanese high school girls. Produced by Kyoto Animation, the same studio behind Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu, the 24-episode series started airing in Japan in April 2007. Yoshimizu's comic has previously been adapted into video game, drama CD, and visual novel format, and this latest anime incarnation retains the cute look and fun, meandering comedy of the original comic.

Izumi Konata is smart and athletic but gets restless easily, except when it comes to playing video games, a beloved pastime that eats up most of her waking hours. Her friends include odd couple twin sisters Tsukasa and Kagami. Younger sister Tsukasa is friendly and great in cooking, but on the ditzy side and a beat behind in studies. Older sister Kagami, on the other hand, is an excellent student, but her good grades and sensitive ego make her feel lonely at times. Bespectacled, bookish Miyuki comes from a rich family and is polite to a fault, always willing to help classmates with schoolwork and put up with Konata's good-natured teasing.
