To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Lupin III television anime series, the beloved series is getting its first television special in two years. In addition to Studio Ghibli's Sato Toshiharu joining as Chief Animation Director, Chi no Kokuin Eien no Mermaid also features new voice actors Namikawa Daisuke, Sawashiro Miyuki, and Yamadera Koichi as major characters Arsene Lupin III, Mine Fujiko, and Inspector Zenigata. This time, a wicked villain named Todo has kidnapped Fujiko to force Lupin to steal a jewel called a "Mermaid's Scale". This is only the beginning in solving a complex puzzle that goes as far back as the death of Arsene's grandfather.
