February 4, 2007 A Lot of Great SongsThis 2 CD Set is well worth the money if you don't already own the soundtracks that these tracks appear on. Although I already owned the Princess Hours soundtrack, I thought this was too good of a deal to pass up. Lots of wonderful music for a fantastic price. Did you find this review helpful? December 19, 2002 Something Magical For Everyone
Being that I don't speak Chinese, I find myself at a disadvantage when it comes to lyrical content. However, GiGi creates something on this CD that is so magical that it reminds us how music and the power of a beautiful voice can reach across the rift of cultural difference.
I was shopping on YesAsia one day looking to increase my Cantopop collection when I stumbled on the advert for Magical Season. GiGi ... I thought. I have heard her name dropped by many of my friends who love Hong Kong films. However, I was really enticed by the cover. She looks so at peace, beautiful, and what a gorgeous backdrop.
I am glad to to say that I was not in the least disappointed. I own CDs by Sammi Cheng, A-Mei, Karen Mok, Anita Mui, Faye Wong, and a variety of other Chinese songstresses. GiGi just has a voice that is unique and magnetic. Magical Season is beautiful, classy, and a well made album in my humble opinion.
My favorite tracks are 1,2,3, and 4. Track 1 - Happy Classroom is light and airy, it reminds of elementary school trips to historic places I visited and the old world, earthy feel they had to them. Track 2 - Who Are You Saving? is an aching ballad that drowns you. I really felt GiGi in this song. I am quite sure this song must be about lost love. Track 3 - Advanced Dream is just an upbeat tempo song that you will find yourself singing and tapping your feet. It's so sweet and charming. Track 4 - Magical Season makes me feel like whimsically traveling from place to place enjoying the freedom that life can give us.
I think of this album as a comfort piece. It's a very soulful, nostalgic CD. I give it an exurberant 10. I wish I could honestly give it a higher rating. It is just that good.
Did I mention the VCD that comes with the CD. There are 3 videos for tracks 2,3, and 4. The videos compliment her songs rather nicely.
So, what are you waiting for? Buy it! I am sure you won't be at all disappointed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
October 24, 2002 An Excellent Display of Emil's Versatility
Blue Bird is a beautiful album of English songs chosen by Emil. English is not Emil's native language but his pronounciation is excellent. His voice is just as beautiful reciting Chinese as it does English.
I really was moved by his choice of songs. Being a child of the 80s, I recognized his cover of John Waite's "Missing You", The Cars' "Drive," and The Cutting Crew's "Been In Love Before."
Emil's heart is exposed here with much tenderness. I really felt his presence although these are not his original compositions.
I give this CD an 8 because I feel that Emil could do better. I felt that he was holding back. Perhaps, he doesn't feel as comfortable singing in English as he does in his native language.
However, I say way to go Emil!Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -

May 26, 2002 Great Introduction to Korean Pop MusicThis box set is comprised of 6 CDs (5 music CDs and 1 VCD). This product is packaged well. It's fresh and fun. 4 out of the 5 music CDs has lyrics printed in the CD slip. Unfortunately, I don't speak Korean but I love the music and vocals. I plan on learning Korean to enhance my experience. Back to the music, you have a lot of the biggest names in Korean Pop like SES, HOT, Shinhwa, and Click-B. The music is upbeat and refreshing in terms of pop. I especially loved the VCD, it gave me a peak into Korean Pop Culture. I give a 10! Fantastic! Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
