FIRST ROCK n ROLL Chinese musical still ROCKS !

Way back in the mid50s when Rock n Roll music first made a headway in Hollywood movies, "MAMBO GIRL" followed as the FIRST HK movie that uses R n R music to compliment the movie. Ge Lan, who can sing all kinds of popular songs (in Chinese & English)delivered a great performance in this landmark movie. It was no wonder the movie was a BIG hit even outside Hongkong. The songs "I Love Cha Cha", "Mambo Girl" are still being sung today--aside from the nostalgic warmth one gets from seeing this movie today, one can still marvel at the intricate footwork, the emotional depth of the acting by Ge Lan, Ting Hao and Tang Ro Ching etc. All in all , "Mambo Girl" is as unforgetable as you can get...Thanks for the memories, Ge Lan !!!!! |
