導演:張徹、鮑學禮
Director: Chang Cheh, Pao Hsueh-li

Chen Kuan-tai exuded incredible power on screen, which his directors used to great advantage in this fight-filled follow-up to the smash hit The Boxer Fom Shantung. All the lead character did was win some money gambling with a Shanghai gangleader’s playboy son, but that’s enough for the father and child to want obsessive revenge. It all culminates in an incredible climatic fight, choreographed by the legendary Liu Chia-liang and Chen Chuan, co-star of Bruce Lee’s Fist Of Fury.

Satisfying fightfest Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
Fans of brutal martial arts action shouldn't miss "Man of Iron". In 1940s Shanghai, Boss Yu Zhen-Ting (Yeung Chi-Hing) rules the roost. But all is not well in Boss Yu's realm. His son, the weaselly wastrel Yu Chow-Kai (Tien Ching), is a constant embarrassment; now a rising young thug named Qiu Lian-Huan (Chen Kuan Tai) covets Chow-Kai's wealthy socialite girlfriend, Shen Ju Fang (Ching Li). Boss Yu asks his top henchman Chang Gen Bao (Zhu Mu) to put the brash Qiu in his place, but Chang has his own agenda -- he believes the time has arrived for Boss Yu to be put out to pasture and for Chang himself to seize control.

The stage is set for a series of epic street fights, as Chen Kuan Tai squares off against armies of club- and knife-wielding gangsters. The scheming of Chang against Boss Yu is handled beautifully and Zhu Mu plays his double-dealing role to the hilt. The headstrong Qiu also makes a compelling character, particularly as we see him grapple with the trap that Chang has set for him. As the pretty socialite, Ching Li gets slapped around a lot and, when it is Chen Kuan Tai doing the slapping, she seems to like it; she quickly falls in love with the uber-ambitious Qiu.

There are a few minor missteps. For example, in one outdoor scene we see a building in the background that is distinctly too modern for the film's 1940s era. And I, for one, would have appreciated a bit more time spent on character development (what makes Qiu tick?) and on placing the film more firmly within the distinctive setting of occupation-era Shanghai. Nonetheless, the film succeeds very well in building the tension that leads to its culminating battle. Moreover, in the film's many fight scenes, Chen Kuan Tai comes about as close as anyone has to rivalling Bruce Lee's brutal effectiveness. (Kudos to anyone who can spot Alexander Fu Sheng in his tiny role in this movie.)

charisma personified Customer Review Rated Bad 8 - 8 out of 10
I thought this was just an okay movie but it exceeded my expectations. Chen Kuan Tai exuded charisma and supreme confidence in the title role. I also thought Ching Li would play her trademark damsel-in-distress role but no, here she is a highclass arrogant socialite who gradually becomes the Ching Li we know when she falls in love with the hero. Although not an awardwinning masterpiece, this movie is very entertaining filled with good performances. Apart from Chen Kuan Tai and Ching Li, Tien Ching & Chu Mu will disgust you with their portrayals of the rascals. Pick this up and I am certain you will enjoy it.

Man of Iron Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
My review of Man of Iron, for starter, the team of Chang Cheh, pao-Hsueh-Li Liu Chia Liang and, Chen KUAN-Tai are a well put team. The movie as a whole one the best kung-fu movie to come out in the seventies. Man of Iron is the movie to have in your collection, if not you are not a real kung-fu movie fan. The action is topnotch, as well as the acting, by the stars. Chen Kuan-Tai made the film come alive, in every inch of the movie. The legendary Chang Cheh and Pao-Hsueh-Li, out did themselves, just like they with The Boxer from ShanTung. If you are thinking of buying this classic Shaw Brother movie, you are making a wise choice.
