Japanese actor Taguchi Hiromasa (the portly dance student in Shall We Dance?) stars in the unexpected comedy Maniacal Night! Miki (Taguchi Hiromasa) is a Japan-born office clerk working in Hong Kong, who treats himself to a special gift for his 30th birthday: a high-class call girl, who will fulfill his every desire. But Miki makes one tragic error: he forgets to bring a condom! While obtaining one is a seemingly easy task, Miki finds his quest derailed by a variety of unexpected circumstances. He is mugged, gets involved in a triad dispute, and runs afoul of a religious cult AND the Hong Kong Police (led by Hong Kong actor Chin Ka Lok). With midnight as the deadline for his appointment with the call girl, Miki is determined to find his prophylactic and consummate his affair. However, it's also the evening of the 1997 Handover of Hong Kong from Great Britain to China, so fireworks are about to go off...literally! Director Sam Leung creates slapstick action and surprising comedic situations, and his cast (including popular character actor Lam Suet) perform gamely. Maniacal Night is a wacky and wildly entertaining ride into Hong Kong's explosive neon night!
