Wah's Tutor Friend
Wah's Tutor Friend

When I first saw Stephy and Alex in this movie's sequel "Love is Not All Around" (I've watched this backwards), I considered it to be a more restrictive film to the demographic of age and location - for the HK teen only, and in some ways that holds true here, too. But after watching this film, I felt that Wah and Bobo's tale of love troubles, woe, humor and romance to be a bit more welcome to a wider audience and a very good film, too. Where I found that "Love is Not All Around" was a bit fast and furious in the scene changing and pacing dept., this first installment is a lot more of a sober and emotional affair, that keeps to a steady pacing and features a less erratic story line. I realize that Wah and Bobo are of the karaoke and lively high energy teen circuit, but even so, the high jinks and heady HK romance stuff is more palatable here to watch. There were also a larger set of characters involved in the sequel, too, that made it a far more chaotic and brittle edged watch at times, where the only real chaotic parts here, are the Mahjong games that Bobo plays with her cousin and mates. The mixture of emotional overdrives are kept to a relevant minimum , too, and you can watch this with far more coherency and pleasure. And its a nice romantic film overall. It has its moments, though, with some of Stephy's emotional scenes. Although Stephy is successful as a singer, she certainly is one feisty little actress, and can burst into almost unnerving states of despair when Bobo's emotional chips are down, and can really make you feel like worrying about her at times. Bobo bursts into quite a bit of emotional turmoil here, too, when she discovers that Wah (Alex) is a bit tied up emotionally himself with his past flame and tutor friend Josephine, who the latter pops up not long after both Bobo and Alex get married. And who Wah seems incapable of saying "not tonight" to, for some reason also (probably due to the 'fool' in the title of course), after he helps Josephine to bed, when she gives him a telephone call to say she is suffering with a flu virus. Josephine is a very sweet girl, though, but her need for Alex's love becomes problematical to say the least - and befitting by the end of it all, when you consider that she did love Alex before he met Bobo. Alex, of course, becomes 'very popular' with Bobo when she gets to hear about this. Bobo is one lovely girl, though, that makes it impossible to favor any tryst that Wah has with Josephine. I mean, the bounder! But with Bobo's emotional energy in this film, I think, is the main reason that could have elevated Stephy's acting credibility, and the middle section of this film where Bobo 'cracks up' slightly after Wah's 'innocent' trysts with Josephine, is quite a decent and emoted performance from her - and no doubt Stephy's doing really well in the recent "In Love with the Dead" movie. Emotionally swinging, too, when this scene is followed on with Bobo returning home and finding her eccentrically dressed cousin trying to get to grips with the Crazy Taxi (I think) video game, which turns the film from a teary bit - to a funny bit. So, yes, a nice and well crafted film this, that I feel any one who hasn't seen this yet, should surly enjoy as a teary but good romantic drama. The story is certainly a formulaic one,of two people getting married, followed by a third party tryst emerging from the past to disturb the blissful union. But its all a good formulaic film, with two good actors and likable people, that portray the two lovers with utmost originality and charm. "Marriage with a Fool" certainly stands firm above its somewhat jarring sequel (although this may only be me here), and a lot of similar clone type movies. It could have been better, though, and if so, would have made this a firm romantic classic. I certainly believe that Wah and Bo are two very good portrayals and characters with Alex and Stephy, and albeit what I think of the sequel, it would be nice to see them both return for a third outing(*). See how they get on - or should I say, how W and B cannot possibly get on totally, by their ever more gasp, horror, shock tumultuous relationship in young and modern HK. They certainly love each other truly, and their stories are a constant testing ground regarding the latter "or for worse" of the marriage vows, showcased on these movies. Maybe there should be a TV drama about them, with how Bobo and Alex met right up until the present, with lots of extras in between. So to get to the point - an enjoyable film this and certainly for the true romantic - a must buy! (*) Well, that was what I had just wrote recently, until I spotted today that Alex and Stephy are doing another film, after all, called "My Dearest", which I imagine is another chapter in Bobo and Wah's love life (although I'm not certain at this point in posting this here). So have a look at other Stephy and Alex links to find out about it (especially "Stephilosophy "). |

finally took the time and watched this movie pretty much everything was quite predictable..as u can tell by the pictures..it's about a couple who just got married..and then later on their marriage starts to shattered and everything..a typical chinese plot..but the ending..boy..the last 10 seconds really shocked me..i kinda expected the director to do something a bit different than the usual..but not as different as wht i expected to be..it's quite intersting actually i dun really wanan spoil the ending right here in case someone does have lots of interest in watching it but overall this movie isn't too bad..everybody who were involved in the film did a great job..though the acting skills still lacks a bit..but it's somethign new and fresh..not your usual talented actors/actresses..i woudl recommend this to anybody actually..it's an intersting movie |

hm..
| marriage with a fool, had a cute cast, but everything about it was predictable. i still had fun watching it because there were some rather funny parts. the ending stunk though.. i'd prefered it to be less-cheesy. it's one of those movie if you watch then it's fun, but if you miss it, it doesn't matter either. |
