Based on Higashino Keigo's short story collection, the 2009 TV Asahi suspense comedy Meitantei no Okite sends up the detective genre by both reveling in and poking fun of the genre's cliches. Hana Yori Dango's Matsuda Shota stars as the "famous detective" Tenkaichi Daigoro, who is eccentric, talkative, and capable of cracking mysterious cases that leave the police scratching the head - because that's what all the detective stories say. Kashii Yu (Innocent Love) plays the rookie female cop and Kimura Yuichi the clueless inspector that join Tenkaichi in his gumshoe adventures.
