Juon (Korean Version)
January 31, 2004 Good Horror! This is a great film to watch even if you cant speak Japanese!!! I have watched it in Japan with NO ENGLISH SUBTITLES or STRONG ABILITY to SPEAK or UNDERSTAND JAPANESE and I can honestly tell you I was looking around my bedroom that very same night just to make sure nothing was HOVERING or STANDING in the corner!!! It is that POWERFUL. This film creates the perfect atmosphere of fear by allowing the viewer to have fleeting moments of terror as the story unfolds
around a cursed house (a murder/suicide took place there five years previously) and anyone that comes into that house after......
My understanding is that Japanese horror movies usually focus on atmosphere rather than a proper story line so dont expect to understand the story 100%. However, you will not be disappointed with the way this film is done as it definitely delivers what most viewers want to see when they watch a HORROR movie. There is nothing like walking pass a mirror only to glimpse a ghost walking pass at the same time or to hear the pitter patter of a dead boys feet as he runs by you in the background or to see a pair of ghostly eyes looking at you through a glass sliding door... in a different house! It is very eerie and spooky. Watch it!!! I really liked it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This) -
The Phone (Hong Kong Version)
January 31, 2004 Good Horror!
I really enjoyed this film and would highly recommend it if you enjoyed THE RING,JUON or THE EYE. (Some other Asian horror movies out there which are good in their own right too).
I thought that The Phone (Voice) had a good story line with a bit of a twist added at the end which I didnt expect at all! Throughout the film it has its "moments" and eventually you do start to guess what happened ONLY to find out near the end that there is alot more to it than first thought. And it is this that makes it original and great to watch. All the actors are well casted....even the little girl...and even though the dialogue is simple it is still SCARY to watch. This is a modern day horror without all the hollywood hype and overdone special effects. Watch it!!!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes (Report This)
