人種差別が根強く残る１９５０年代に、白人のＤＪヒューイは「レイス・ミュージック」といわれタブーとされていた黒人が歌うブルースをラジオで流す。ビートの効いた音楽に若者たちは熱狂。そしてヒューイは黒人歌手のフェリシアと出会い恋に落ちる。２人は周囲の妨害や反対にあいながらも愛を貫こうとするが・・・。実在のＤＪデューイ・フィリップスをモデルに、ダイナミックなダンスと歌が繰り広げられるブロードウェイならではの作品。ロックバンド「ボン・ジョヴィ」のキーボード、デヴィッド・ブライアンが音楽、歌詞を担当している。
