| i liked this song after a few times listen. it has a kind of exotic sound to it. it is way different from the regular pop that is played on the stations. i was taken aback by it and had to listen to it a few more times and discovered its difference from other generic ordinary music. this song mermaid is good. the music is special. and hitomi's voice goes very nicely with it. |

| This single has a gothic feel to it but after a few seconds it goes into r'n'b mode and that gives the track it's unique touch. Alot of people say that Hitomi-san goes into places where singers like Ayumi-san doesn't dare. And thats 100% correct! Thats what I like about her |

A refreshing new start for Hitomi Shimatani this summer. This single simply blew me away. Mermaid is a mixture of pop and classical making it sound r&b while giving the song a mystical feel to it. The song delivers a very powerful message with a mournful and gothic feel attached to it. A very unique track. Kaze ni Furu Sora is a very beautiful ballad stressing her excellent ability in singing ballad. I think Shimatani has finally found her niche in j-pop which I'm very happy to see. Her voice blends in very well with the style and it's a genre which few singers have experimented with or would dare to. |

An Amazing Accomplishment
An Amazing Accomplishment
| Now I know she has better singles than this, but she accomplished something amazing with this single. This single actually had a THEME. It was so damn brilliant! Both of the songs tie together so well, though the style is different, Hitomi Shimatani STILL debut at the #11 position on the charts, which I think is amazing, with this type of new style. Any other artists (except for a few, like Ayu) would've not EVER made this a single because they know they wouldn't sell as much. I think this is a single Hitomi should be proud of, and I'd buy it any day. |

Crossover again?

I think this crossover business is getting stale for Hitomi. She should have left it after her last album and stop being predictable. Mermaid is a rather forgetful track and the classical music infusion is bogging down the piece. She has a penchant for picking good dance music, maybe she will do better for her next release. Kudos to the second track. She sounds terrific on ballads and this is evident in the second offering on this single. I would still buy this single for the second track. |
