Wacky feel-good comic hijinks abound in Merry Christmas, a star-studded comedy from director Clifton Ko (All's Well, Ends Well). Baldy Mak (Karl Maka) is a newspaper editor and widower, who's raising three children alone. Two are grown (Loletta Lee and Danny Chan Bak Keung), while the third is Baldy Jr., a toddler played by Cyrus Wong Ka Ming (who would play a similar role alongside Karl Maka in the Aces Go Places films). The kids want their father to find love with Auntie Paula (Paula Tsui), their single neighbor and Baldy Jr's babysitter. Baldy Mak has no interest, but when Auntie Paula's cousin (famed action director Yuen Woo Ping) arrives from American wanting to marry her, Baldy Mak may lose his chance! When he discovers his affection for her, will it be too late? Co-starring the legendary Leslie Cheung, Merry Christmas is surefire holiday cheer for the whole family!

中年報館採訪主任麥尚（麥嘉飾）有二兒一女，最小的兒子小光頭才兩歲，大兒子（陳百強飾）與小女兒（李麗珍飾）日漸察覺他的孤獨，於是合力鼓勵父親去追求住在隔壁的女歌手小鳳（徐小鳳飾）。鳳對麥尚相當有好感，在日間還經常幫忙照顧小光頭。原本沒有再婚打算的麥尚在兒女的遊說下，也開始動了心，展開了追求。世事難料，小鳳的表哥從美國返港有意娶小鳳為妻。麥尚生怕小鳳被表哥帶走，於是設計陷害表哥。然而聰明反被聰明誤，小鳳不滿麥尚所為，竟答應下嫁表哥。除夕夜，家中開了一舞會，看著出雙入對的年輕人，麥尚百感交集，獨在露臺沉思，忽然小鳳出現了。

Mak Sheung, a middle aged newspaper editor, has two sons and a daughter. When his elder son Keung and daughter, Chun, are both aware of their father's loneliness, they persuade father to date the singer Siu Fung, living next door. She is quite fond of Mak and offers to take care of his 2-year-old boy during daytime. Despite his intention not to marry again, Mak is finally convinced by his beloved children to pursue Siu Fung. Incidentally, Siu Fung's cousin, Uncle Sam returns from USA with a proposal to marry her. Being afraid of losing her, Mak plans to frame Uncle Sam but finally fails. Siu Fung is so mad at Mak that she decides to marry her cousin. Mak feels miserable for losing Siu Fung when his children and friends are having a good time inside his house on New Year's Eve. While meditating on the veranda, Siu Fung suddenly appears.
