ロバート・デ・ニーロの男っぽい魅力が伝わってくるアクション・ドラマ。 元シカゴ警察のジャックは、金次第でどんな危険な仕事でも請け負う"バウンティ・ハンター（賞金稼ぎ）"。そんな彼は、ある日、ギャングの金を横領し、慈善事業に寄付した計理士ジョナサンを見つけだし、ニューヨークからロサンゼルスまで連行する仕事を請け負った。難なくジョナサンを見つけだしたジャックは、彼を連行するためにロスへと向かう。しかし、二人はジョナサンの命を狙うギャングと、同じく彼の行方を追うFBIの双方から追われるハメに。また、ジャックのライバルの賞金稼ぎにも狙われてしまい、二人の道中は大陸横断の大逃走劇へと転じる。だが、そんな修羅場の中、二人の間には奇妙な友情のようなものが芽生え始め…。
