Professional Review of "MIJ-SMAP 016 (Japan Version)"

July 18, 2003

This professional review refers to MIJ-SMAP 016 (Taiwan Version)
"Hot" in Both a Denotative and Connotative Sense- "MIJ-SMAP 016" the 2-CD Album by SMAP

The Japanese quintet SMAP greets us all with their latest 2-CD album "MIJ-SMAP 016" released in late June 2003. Busy with the promotion of this new musical work, these five men are now preparing themselves for the coming nation-wide "SMAP 03 MIJ Tour". Sapporo (July 5th) will be their first stop of the show while Miyagi (September 6th) will be the last.

Burning red is the theme color of "MIJ-SMAP 016" highlighting how energetic and hot this boy group is. Actually this modern wording pattern is the sequel to the cover of the group's "Smap! Tour! 2002!".

"Theme of MIJ" is probably a tailor-made overture for their upcoming tour. The crossover between the hip-hop harmony and the eastern musical instruments is so powerful that SMAP and G.M.Kaz who arranged this track really deserve credit for originality.

What comes along with "Summer Gate" and “Touch me Kiss me” must be the groovy dance moves of this sensational group. "Summer Gate" can rock the show with its fast tempo and the excitement brought by their support dancers. "Touch me Kiss me", on the other hand, is a snappy tune with sweet lyrics that keep the fans absorbed.

"Flapper" is a dance tune playing on the mysterious atmosphere generated by the sing-alone and the sing-along parts.

"Love and Courage" (Disc 1, Track 7) featuring the 80's J-Rock style together with the amazing music playing should be the most nostalgic track on this album.

There must be ineffable difficulties for a person who keeps a letter unposted and we may find the story on "Unposted Letter". It is a nice surprise to find such a tender rendition from SMAP. What cannot be missed on a boy band's album is a thankful song dedicated to the loyal fans and such a track is the mellow ballad "A Song for Your Love".

If you prefer the less sophisticated performance style from SMAP, "Easy go Lucky" is your choice. "Thousand Nights" gives us a taste of the national rhythm generated by both the traditional and the electric guitars.

Well, won't "MIJ-SMAP 016" further rouse your anticipation towards SMAP's live recording of their national tour?

Recommended Tracks: "Unposted letter", "Summer gate", "A Song for Your Love", "Thousand Nights"

GREAT CD Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This is a great CD with several excellent melodic songs. This is likely the most popular band in Japan now. But, in my opinion, the greatest band in Japan receives little recognition: 3B LAB

SMAP Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
Yes! My favorite all-male band has released another great album. Within this CD lies songs like "Susume" and the organ version of the mega-hit "Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana". Unlike Ayumi and Hikki, SMAP has songs with great original lyrics. I especially liked the lyrics in "Susume" for some reason: "ALWAYS, Nishi e higashi e ame ni mo makezu arukou..."

I REALLY enjoy all of SMAP'S songs and this album has no exceptions. Everyone, get out and buy it as soon as you can!
