(1)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysJanuary 31, 2010 Cheesy beyond belief!Had this film even stood any chance of being good, it was immediately ruined by the 'made-for-tv' format. I could not get past that even when in the very beginning it looked like it might be an ok film. But wooden acting, cheesy set-ups and terrible computer generated effects that looked like...terrible computer generated effects firmly places this film on my have to be desperate to watch list.
I could kind of see where they were trying to go with this, but there were so many ideas fighting against each other that nothing worked well. If they had kept a connection to the haunted house then things may have worked out a bit better. And the attempt to introduce sex into the film was overdone and extremely clumsy. There was a lot of filler especially the disco scenes where the same dreadful music and out of tune singer was played.
The storyline was very thin. Lots of loose ends; mostly because it seemed like they couldnt make up their mind which approach to take. Bad acting, bad script and the subtitles were dreadful (for english), camera angles were annoying and it was very boring. Again, the tv format did nothing to create any sort of atmosphere. The film rambled in so many nonsensical directions it became quite difficult to make sense of it all and to be honest if I hadnt wanted to have a complete opinion of the film, I would have given up watching it.
The best bit was when the guy who was acting as the director of the film was pushed into his swimming pool by the unseen ghost, because he made the most hysterical noise, I couldnt stop laughing. The bloopers at the end made more sense and they didnt have english subtitles!
People, if you dont like cheesy, bad acting, bad script, bad film format, pointless scenes and bad special effects DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on this film.

(1)Our Price: US$10.99Usually ships within 7 daysJanuary 30, 2010 A bit BoringI found this film to be a bit boring and my mind kept wandering. The acting seems a bit wooden and the beginning is a bit vague. I thought at first it was going to follow along the lines of Dark Water but it didnt. Its not jumpy and didnt even creep me out. The actress's bony skeletal frame was scarier than the film. Never seen anyone so skinny!
It does improve towards the end and the storyline picks up when you find out who is causing the haunting and why. Its a film that I would watch if I really had nothing much else to do.
I think it depends on how easily you get creeped out/frightened etc. Not one that hard core horror fans would really enjoy but would probably scare those who get scared quite easily.

The Wicked Ghost II - The Fear
January 30, 2010 DissappointedI really liked the first one so I bought the sequel. I have to say in typical Chinese fashion, there is no direct link to the first story - a bit like the Eye trilogy.
Near the beginning of the film there is a clip of the first film 'A Wicked Ghost' on a tv programme that one of the characters is watching in this sequel. Other than that, there appears to be no link with the first film despite the fact that the ghost looks the same in both films and her appearance is really scary. But further into the film the link is made by saying those people who see the ghost are seeing it in their own way. In other words, if you believe a ghost to look like a teddy bear, it will look like a teddy bear. But if you believe the ghost looks like the one on the tv programme (showing the ghost from the first film), then thats what you'll see; this is drummed in (as long as you catch on) by a character saying that the ghost's appearance is an illusion. I thought some of the plot was a bit silly such as the demise of the woman who then goes on to be the ghost, but it leads up to a good effect of the ghost without a body. Its a shame there was no better way to get around the silly bit. I wasnt particularly keen on the ending. Again, a bit silly but Ive seen worse.
I thought the first film was a bit rambling but this one is no better. Again the english subtitles were really bad. I have bought the third in the series and hope it is as good as, if not better than the first. But I feel this sequel is a bit of a let down.

January 30, 2010 Not as bad as some people say
This really isnt as bad as some people say. Think Japanese Ring but done less well. In other words, it has all the elements of the Ring, vengeful female ghost, friends only having so long to live until the ghost is set free and tracing the origins of the ghosts demise and finding her body buried in a pond. Its a bit funny at the beginning cos theres a bit where the reporter receives a video and it has the Ring video on it. The scary bits are just as jumpy as the Ring but I never considered the Ring to be a horror film, more like a mystery creepy ghost story and thats what A Wicked Ghost is. And for people who harp on about 'not another long black-haired-hanging-down-over-the-face girl' I have to say I have no problem with this. The reason I like this one is that her face is not revealed all that much but when you do see it, its much scarier than similar characters in in similar films. And anyway, as someone said somewhere else, most east asian girls do have long straight black hair.
The problem is not the ghost, it is a scary looking one and she appears frequently in film right from the beginning so there are not too many long gaps before you see her again. The storyline is basic but easy to follow, but the film lacks polish and is a bit rambling. The thing I hated most about it was the english subtitles - dreadful! Really bad. I had to keep re-winding to read them and then think of an equilvalent english phrase. I also did not like the nasal high pitched singing - but it is Chinese after all.
All in all, I think that if this film was more polished and had a bigger budget, it would have the same feel as the japanese Ring. It really had potential. I bought the sequel which I was dissappointed with after seeing this one.
