Terrific Itami film
| "Minbo no Onna" is one of director Itami Juzo's best ... and that is very, very good. Hotel Europa, a luxury hotel in Tokyo, is being targeted by Yakuza thugs for extortion. Two hapless employees are assigned the task of keeping the gangsters quiet. However, when the costs of paying the extortion money become ruinously high, the hotel brings in a lady lawyer who specializes in discouraging the Yakuza. Miyamoto Nobuko is brilliant as the fearless lawyer, able to stare down bellowing thugs and make them scurry away with their tails between their legs. The film boasts a dream cast, with the actors in the Yakuza roles playing their parts with devilish relish. Funny, suspenseful, and heartwarming, "Minbo no Onna" has it all. Very highly recommended. |
