Hong Kong actress Nadia Chan and acclaimed Mainland actors Hu Jun and Wei Zi star in the 2008 historical drama Ming Dynasty Legend. Directed by Kan Weiping of Dead Men Do Tell Tales fame, the medical drama is set against the historical background of China's war against invading Japanese pirates, fusing battle action and court intrigue in its depiction of the stories of legendary Ming-Dynasty Chinese medicine practitioner Ke Yujing.

Obsessed with alchemy and immortality, the Ming Emperor Jiajing orders the capture of royal doctor Wang Shanzun due to his failure to cure the sick prince. Meanwhile, General Qi Jiguang (Hu Jun) and his army returns triumphantly from the battlefield. Targeted for assassination by Japanese spies, Qi escapes death with the help of a scholar-on-the-run, Ke Yujing (Wei Zi). Ke later meets and befriends Danggui (Nadia Chan) and her father, who is none other than the fugitive Wang Shanzun. Instigated by the corrupt Prime Minister Yan Song and his cohorts, Emperor Jiajing orders General Qi to bring down the mounting threat of the Japanese, even though his army is beset by a serious disease. At the critical moment, Ke comes to Qi's aid...
