YesAsia Editorial Description

JYP Entertainment has given us Rain, Wonder Girls, 2PM, 2AM, and now it's miss A! Managed under JYPE's sub-label AQ Entertainment, the "A class" rookie group is formed by Korean members Suzy and Min and Chinese members Jia and Fei. The girls are focusing their activities in Korea and China, and they've already unveiled their vocals for a Samsung China commercial even before their debut. Their first single album Bad but Good features four tracks including the title song Bad Girl Good Girl. Breaking the mold of girl group pop, the powerful mid-tempo number combines a rich melody with hip-hop beats, announcing a fresh new force in Asian pop.

A Class실력파 그룹 miss A, 데뷔앨범 ‘Bad but Good’공개

miss A의 데뷔 싱글 ‘Bad but Good’은 타이틀곡 Bad Girl Good Girl을 비롯하여 딱 마주쳐, 다시 사랑, Break it등 miss A만의 뚜렷한 색깔과 개성이 담긴 4곡이 수록되어 있다.

A Class debut
You have to hand it to JYP: miss A was worth the wait and hype after all. Only a month into their debut, K-pop's newest girl group has been topping charts for weeks on end, and snagging victories on major music programs. Having the backing of the JYP marketing machine helps of course, but the key to the overnight success comes down to the outstanding debut single Bad Girl Good Girl. Many girl groups with power vocals (Black Pearl, Davichi, and Brown Eyed Girls, for example) take a while to find their way to a comfortable spot within the current K-pop trend of dance, electro-pop, and auto-tune, but miss A achieves that balance with their first single.

Bad Girl Good Girl (Track 1) slinks and slithers to an urban dance pop melody that's plenty catchy for constant plugging, but doesn't bow to the K-pop tide of overbearing electronic arrangements. The girls actually sing, and they sing well in deep, rich, and charismatic voices that match the song's assertive lyrics and sultry modern dance vibe. Bad Girl Good Girl is a defiant answer to those who want to judge a gal by appearances, and miss A completely captures the tone of the song in their vocal and stage performance, projecting a strong and confident female image and exuding sexiness rather than selling it.

The other three songs on their debut EP Bad But Good don't measure up to Bad Girl Good Girl, but they hold up fine on repeated listens. For those who were tracking miss A early on, "Love Again" (Track 3) is actually the song that first introduced them to audiences. The girls released it as a campaign song for Samsung prior to their debut before Min was added to the group. The song was rerecorded with all four members for the album, but basically sounds the same as the previous version. In melody and lyrics, "Love Again" is a standard mid-tempo love song, but the energetic arrangement very successfully transforms it into an airy dance pop number with a subtly cute and wistful tone. The big weakness of "Love Again" is the rap passage, which sounds perfectly fine by itself but breaks the mood of the song. It's not surprising that some fans actually prefer "Love Again" to the more mature Bad Girl Good Girl as it better emphasizes the group's fresh and youthful appeal.

Break It is more what one would expect from a K-pop girl group sound wise. The auto-tuned passages, distracting chanting, and rap break are all in there, but even so the song is fairly clean and minimal, not the full-on electric explosions we're getting too used to hearing. The song's deliberate tempo - it basically repeats the same beat for the entire song - puts all the different elements on the same page and up to speed with each other. It's a decent if not exactly memorable side track. The varied beats that are absent from Break It apparently all went into "Looking at Each Other" (Track 2), a super busy oddball of a song that refuses to stay consistent for more than 10 seconds at a time, and is all the more fun for it.

Bad But Good may be only four songs long, but it highlights miss A's great potential, and sets their sound and image apart from other girl groups early on. It'll be interesting to see what kind of music miss A can bring to not only Korean pop but also Chinese pop in the future. Just please get them a new stylist first.

Amazing Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I love them. They're all so talented. When I receieved this albumin the mail I thought, "Now what the heck am I supposed to put a frickin triangle?" I wont lie, it's a little awkward to store, but it's a fun and unique shape which is funky :) Thye all have their own pictures as well some group ones but the CD sits on it's own with one of those foam circles in the center to hold it in place. Dont get me wrong, it does the job and holds the CD in place (way better than those stupid flap cutouts) I'm just not a fan of them.

Okay, the songs. Obviously the first track is great, I love it, I have it on repeat all the time, haha.
I love their Song Love Again, but I do like the chinese version better, it just flows better than the korean versionn, but it's still a good song.
Break it has a nice beat to it. It sort of has a 2ne1 style to it and is really fresh.
The other song was alright. I think the beginning of it threw me off, but it is the least favorite of all the songs on this album.

Still a good album though :)
