Swedish actress Pernilla August played Ingmar Bergman's mother in The Best Intentions, which won her Best Actress at the 1992 Cannes Film Festival. She also played Darth Vader's mommy, Shmi Skywalker, in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and that gave her mainstream popularity. Now she explores the heroic side of a lonely single mom who is desperate to save her son in the Taiwan-Sweden co-production Miss Kicki.

In an effort to mend the broken mother-son relation, Miss Kicki (August) takes her estranged son, Viktor (Ludwig Palmell), with her to Taipei for a holiday. All is well until Viktor realizes his mom comes to Taiwan primarily to meet her Internet boyfriend, Mr. Chang. In a bout of anger, he leaves her for the open arms of new friend Didi (Huang Ho), but boh of them end up kidnapped by triad gangsters. Being a foreigner and unable to speak Chinese, how can Miss Kicki get her son back from danger?

Helmed by Norwegian Taiwanese filmmaker Hakon Liu in his feature directorial debut, the drama captures the beauty of Taipei from a different angle as part of it was shot on location at the legendary UFO houses in Sanchih county shortly before they were torn down. Miss Kicki co-stars Taiwan actor and show host Ken Lin, veteran singer/actor Tsai Chen Nan, and Hong Kong showbiz personality Eric Tsang in a special appearance as Mr. Chang.
