Trying to understand (miss)understood Customer Review Rated Bad 7 - 7 out of 10
Here we have Ayumi Hamasaki's eighth original album, (miss)understood. Upon listening to the first track, I almost thought I was listening to Britney Spears or Beyonce instead. Indeed, the first track, "Bold & Delicious", is a bit too Britney-esque and unoriginal for my tastes. Songs like "is this LOVE?", "alterna", and "fairyland" are certainly worthy of a handful of listens, but don't seem to pack the same punch as songs from the "I Am..." era. And songs like "Bold & Delicious" and "Ladies Night" will have you reaching for the fast forward button on your CD player, as they don't stray a bit too far from the usual Ayu formula we've come to expect album after album. It's because of this inconsistency that I can only give (miss)understood an average rating. The DVD looks pretty decent, though, including all the PVs she released for the singles on this album, as well as "making of" clips. I'd say the best thing about this package is the bonus photo album that comes with the CD. Pictures galore! But if you're new to Ayu, I'd suggest either 'My Story' or 'I Am...' instead.

Smooth and Complete Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This album does not get 10/10 from me because of some of the mediocre single tracks (Ayu dissapointed me on this), and I must say that Ayu should not have so many single tracks for her next album. It decreases the "freshness" of this new Ayu album. But otherwise with awesome single tracks such as "step you", "fairyland" and excellent album tracks such as "ladies night", "criminal", "rainy day" this album is a must-buy, just like any other Hamasaki Ayumi album. Well overall this album is very good, but not as good as "rainbow" or "loveppears", but definitely a step up from "memorial address" and "my story". As for the photo album I am very satisfied because it has many beautiful Ayumi pictures ^_^ and I am quite happy with the album booklet itself also, because it's very simple and straight-forward. I have to say that the album goes with the "Bold & Delicious" (btw I dislike this song) theme. The album tracks are definitely worth a listen, though! Ayumi's vocals are improving once again, which gives the album a smooth feeling and a lot of genres/moods are portrayed which generates a complete album.

Improvement. Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
I must say this is an improvement compare to My Story. Ayu's voice has grown much deeper ever since... I'd say, RAINBOW album. When her voice was still higher pitched in her early career, I actually thought her "happy cute" voice was totally fine, but I do not prefer her using the voice she uses in Honey now that it's gone deeper.. Her voice felt like it began to lose power in a sense, but she regained that power again in (miss)understood. Although her vibrato is less consistent than her 2001 - 2003 era, it is still better than what she had in 2004. That's another reason why I really liked her 2005 releases throughout, because the songs really suit her current voice.

Overall, although it lacks a conceptual title, miss(understood) is an abundant album, mostly because of the strong singles.

Ayu never stops to amaze me... Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
This is the ONLY, I repeate, THE ONLY Asian Artist I've found who strives in almost every single one of her albums. So far from all her albums I've had of hers, the only one I didn't like is Rainbow. All the others are AMAZING!!!

She likes to try MANY different styles so of course some of her songs I don't really enjoy, but overall her album is really really good!!!

Keep it up! Hope to get your next one soon!!!

My Favorite!! Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I just love this album. Yeah...half of the songs we've heard but Ayu released A+ singles thoughout 05. I ove the diversity on the album; it doesn't leave bored at all. Ayu's vocals are absolutly perfect in every song and the lyrics are so touching. Ayumi just keeps getting better!

best of Ayu Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Ayu rules!!! I think this album is her best album ever. We have rock, pop, hiphop, ballad, slow-beat. Almost every kind of music in this album. Combined with Ayu's amazing voice makes this album better than her "My Story".
1. Bold&Delicious : this song is kinda "odd" for me. I give 6 stars.
2. STEP you : fast beat and catchy song. one of my favourite. 10 stars.
3. Ladies Night : this song is not quiet good since it keeps repeating the same melody. 6 stars.
4. is this LOVE? : nice song and nice MV. I give 8 stars.
5. (miss) understood : here you can listen to Ayu's vocal improvement. Her voice is very good here. Love the lyrics. 9 stars.
6. alterna : rock style. love the guitar and drums. 8 stars.
7. In The Corner : pop style song. the music is kinda different since violin and string play at the intro and outro. 7 stars.
8. tasking : the arrangement here is very good. Slow-fast pace song. 9 stars.
9. criminal : I skip this track all the time. Not like it too much. for me, the music is not as interesting as the title is. 6 stars.
10. Pride : slow-beat semi-pop ballad song. Love the choir. 9 stars.
11. Will : the Japanese old style makes the atmosphere different. 9 stars.
12. HEAVEN : this is the best song in this album IMO, even the best ballad that Ayu's ever had. the MV is quite plain, but who cares... 10 stars.
13. Are you Wake Up : another best instrument. 8 stars.
14. fairyland : pop-dance song, very catchy, nice music, nice MV. 9 stars.
15. Beautiful Day : Nice lyric. 9 stars.
16. Rainy Day : I feel that this ballad song is kinda boring. Not very good MV IMO. 8 stars.
Overall, this album is a must have. U can get every kind music of Ayu. Plus a photo book as extra ("Off My Day" is better).

not the best, but great album nonetheless Customer Review Rated Bad 9 - 9 out of 10
Though (miss) understood is not ayumi's greatest work, it continues to show a maturing ayu. She is no longer the bubblegum pop princess of Japan but a singer with deep, meaningful lyrics and a strong, talented voice. Some may say that she is not a very good singer, but I think most agree that she is decently talented. If you compare her voice in 1999 and 2000 to the voice she has now, you can tell that she has put a lot of effort into training herself to sing better. I am especially impressed by the song WILL which features a traditional Japanese sound that is not found in any other Ayu song. I also applaud the diversity of this album. It combines dance, rock, traditional, pop and classical elements into one marvelous album. Please support Ayumi and buy this album!
