2005年春月，正值中俄兩軍首次舉行國際軍演選擇參演部隊的關鍵時刻，G戰區王牌部隊鐵軍師正在接受鷹山實兵檢驗性演習。演習中鐵軍師兵敗鷹山，暴露了八大問題。新任師長龍漢生帶領鐵軍師全體官兵面對現實，克服重重困難，積極應對現代戰爭、思索未來戰爭、加緊訓練，導速由機械化作戰向資訊化作戰部隊轉變，最終爭取到了2005中俄聯合軍事學習的光榮任務。
為了這次學習，全軍上下全力以赴，演習區域的地方政府傾力配合，地方百姓不惜犧牲自己的利益，終於順利完成了清障。最終中俄兩國的海陸空三軍在惡劣的氣候條件下出色地完成了演習任務，表達了中國人民追求和平的美好願望，向世界人民展示了我們捍衛和平的能力和信念。
