I love Korean dramas but I must admit I do get tired of the same old formula now and then. So when SBS kicked off its early summer lineup with Money War (a.k.a. Money's Warfare) in 2007, I was pleasantly surprised by what I now consider to be by far one of the most unique Korean dramas I have seen in years. In its groundbreaking blend of comedy, tragedy, and social satire, Money War tells a heartening tale of ordinary citizens who suffer from major debt hangovers. They often fall prey to unscrupulous moneylenders who charge extortionate interest rates, which in turn traps them in a vicious cycle of debt. And it doesn't get any better as these bloodsucking sharks will use every possible means of intimidation, aggression, and violence to retrieve money from their hapless victims. Based on Park In Kwon's popular comic strip, Money War unfolds the story of a down-on-luck man named Geum Na Ra (Park Shin Yang) whose obsession with avenging his father's death drives him over the edge. Money becomes his target for retaliation when Na Ra discovers that his debt-ridden father committed suicide after constantly being harassed by a loan shark. Adding to his grief is the death of his mother, which comes despite Na Ra's perilous effort to obtain cash to pay for her hospital fees. In fact, he even agrees to break up with his longtime girlfriend in exchange for cash in a dead-end deal with his girlfriend's disapproving grandmother. Believing that money is the source of all evil, Na Ra, of all things, declares war on - yes, money! However, realizing the only way to defeat his enemy is to understand the enemy, Na Ra decides to become a loan shark. He finds a job working as a money collector for the notorious loan shark Ma Dong Po while learning the trade secrets along with life's philosophies from the old and legendary pro Dok Go Chul (Shin Goo) who reluctantly takes Na Ra under his wings. Then Na Ra gets the shock of his life when he learns that his gangster boss Ma Dong Po is the very man responsible for his father's death. But Na Ra keeps his cool, scanning for the right time and the right place to seek his revenge. Certainly, there was high expectation for this drama due to the fact that this was Park Shin Yang's return to television since starring in the hugely popular melodrama Lovers In Paris. In Money War, Park takes a 180-degree turn in portraying a man on the verge of insanity, conveying his character's angst, sorrow, and paranoia with striking realism. Simply put, the man steals the show. But as much credit is given to Park and his hair-raising performance, a significant chunk of the credit also goes to the amazing work put out by Park's co-stars: the lovely Park Jin Hee who put mini skirts and vests back in fashion and Lee Won Jong who nailed his part as the sleazy bloodsucking Ma Dong Po. Hit dramas leave behind memorable quotes as in Lovers In Paris, which gave us "ae gi ya ga ja" and "ne ahneh nur it da" (which translates to "Baby, let's go" and "In me, is you", respectively). Making no exception to the rule is Money War which offers gems of wisdom in each of its episodes. If I had to pick my favorite quote, it would be: "men leave scars, but money leaves interest". Boy, I'll drink to that. But the similarity between Park's two dramas ends here. Deftly dissecting the underground world of moneylending in Korea, Money War offers a delightful escapism from the usual array of themes which I believe I can recite even in my sleep. |

| This drama brought out a series of social issues in our daily life, but at times, the story drifts off. The ending was sort of expected but in an unexpected way. Perhaps we should take time to ponder about all these social problems in our society so may be, we can make the world a better place. |

This drama is amazing, it has great acting performances of all actors and actresses (specially by Park Shin Yang), great pace and exciting story. This is a very fresh, original story and drama specially if you're tired of the same kdrama formula and cliches. I was very surprised with how much I loved this drama because I confess, I like romantic dramas more and when I read the summary of this drama I wasn't very interested in watching it. But I decided to give a try and I'm so glad I did! It's been a while since I watched a drama that made me curious about what was going to happen next, at every episode, my excitment and curiosity about what would happen to the characters and the story became bigger. I have so much pleasure watching this... and Park Shin Yang was one of the big reasons this drama was great. He was able to portray all emotions of his character in a brilliant way. He was amazing in all types of scenes: action, emotion, romantic, angry...all! After watching him in this drama I became a huge fan of his! I hope people don't judge this serie just because of the ending. Many were disapointed with the ending, but althought it was not the ending I wanted, I completely understood it and I thought it made sense. My only complain about the ending is that it was a little bit rushed. But besides that, I think it's acceptable what happened. And I still loooooooove this serie. The only bad thing about this serie is the bonus round which was 4 extra episodes made by SBS after the original serie finished. SBS was trying to gain money with the sucess of this serie and also to satisfy the viewers that were disapointed with the last episode. But the Bonus Round is terrible, it makes no sense at and it doesn't add anything to the original story. The bonus round is kinda like a spin-off and not a sequence. I recommend everyone to just watch the original 16 episodes of 'Money's War' and don't watch the bonus round. I'm sure you won't regret watching 'Money's War'! It's a thrilling experience! And Park Shin Yang is amazing! PS: don't watch the bonus round! |

| This would have made a good moral story with a good happy ending...right up to the last 3 minutes of the sieres. Question for writers: Why the terrible ending? What moral lesson were they trying to convey? That Ma Dong Po was the greatest victim? It's just very puzzling how the story ended. The last 3 minutes spoiled the whole show. |

| Don't really like the actors and actresses here but I must agree that Park Shin Yang acts very well. The plot is good - unique and fast-paced. It reaches a climax at the end of every episode , making you want to watch further. However, do not expect much romance in the story and I don't like the ending. |

| I love park shin yang so Im biased. This will not be enjoyed by those who fell in love with Lovers in paris. But for park shin yang's fans this is still a treat. Just dont finish the series you will be disappointed. |
