    May 14, 2006 Stunning. Customer Review Rated Bad 10 - 10 out of 10
I admit, it took me ages to get ahold of this DVD. It's from 2003, and it's now 2006? Haha. I am slow.

I happened to pick it up at Dir en grey's Los Angeles show, knowing it was good but scarcely comprehending just how much...

You really could not ask for a better concert DVD. Kyo pours his heart and soul into his lyrics; I will be the first to say, this is, in my opinion, the turning point for his voice. Though always impressive, I think this tour was peaking its maturity into something truly amazing. The life he breathes into those beautifully instrumented songs is incredible. And, of course, Kaoru, Die, and Toshiya are the avid performers we all expect them to be; strutting around the stage, grinning, gesticulating, pumping the already-enamored crowd. And we can't forget Shinya; who's drumming skill always remains consistent as he pounds out those rhythms with his usual gusto.

I will say, this is one of their most beautifully filmed tours. The band doesn't rely on a terrible amount of impressive lights and lasers; and the beauty lies in the simplicity.

Even aside from the wonderful concert footage, the DVD itself is full to bursting with extra goodies. You have the bonus footage; including all sorts of backstage clips, them exploring different cities, interview shots, extra concerts. Some really hilarious stuff, I might add. It brings those five boys into such a personable light, once we're able to witness them offstage. I truly adore the bizarre sense of intimacy you share as you watch them talk and laugh amongst one another, sharing jokes and harassing eachother.

Also, a multi-angle option for their performance of six Ugly's "children" is available to mess with. You can change the shots to observe each band member as they play (or sing) their way through the song. Very cool.

And, finally, the secret footage. I won't tell you where it is, but there are outtakes, extra performances, and some more of their quirky on-stage escapades. Enjoy unearthing those little treasures; they're certainly worth the effort. :)

Once all is said and done, I really can't say enough good things about this DVD. Even with Dir en grey having matured and grown to the level they are today, I still think 5Ugly Kingdom is well worth every penny. Snag your copy. You won't regret it.
